“Great place”
Reviewed March 27, 2017 for a stay in March 2017

We stayed there with a group of 8. Rooms are very spacious as well as bathrooms. Place was clean and well maintained. Very quiet. Roof top is awesome for evening parties. Great view for the sunrise.

The only small negative is that there is no dishwasher (we cooked dinner most evening at the villa).

Thank you for your lovely review. Our favourite spot is also the roof terrace and we are really glad you enjoyed it as we do.

We have considered the possibility of a dishwasher a good few times. The problem is the sea/salt air causes machinery to rust and the locals have repeatedly advised us against a dishwasher because it is likely that it will not work more often than it does. Parts can be difficult to get hold of. In the end, we feel it is better to be upfront about the fact that there is no dishwasher rather than have one which doesn't work reliably.

We can make arrangements for Marlene, Leo's wife, and others, to come in on a daily basis to wash up to make that side of things easier. Just let us know next time.

“Comfort, location, and serenity”

What a wonderful getaway. 4 couples for 4 nights had an amazing time. Two pools lots of relaxing lounge areas with the peace and quiet of the ocean in front of you in every step. Every bedroom is oceanfront with its own balcony. With Juan Loya and his wife cooking for us, it was astounding. We all agreed it was a trip to remember. The kitchen is fully equipped with everything you need. Leo is beyond helpful and the owners a pleasure to deal with. We have been coming to riviera maya for 9 years now and this was our best visit so far.

“Clean villa near charming village of Puerto Morelas”
Reviewed March 28, 2015 for a stay in March 2015

Owners were wonderful to book with and answered questions quickly. Leo (property manager) lives on the grounds and is easily found in the mornings when he is cleaning the pools, etc. Best features of the villa - each bedroom has it owns bathroom (with soap, but bring your own shampoo) and private balcony. We enjoyed the upstairs roof top - great for afternoon sun, view and plunge pool. The ocean view from the terrace is also lovely, minus the seaweed (which I will say more about it later). And the owners put some provisions in the fridge for your arrival (eggs, etc.). The internet worked well throughout the house and outside the villa as well. We also really loved the local village. Lots of great places to eat and fun things going on in the town square each day.

Our least favorite aspects of our stay - the amount of seaweed in the ocean and the stench from the seaweed. We were hoping to jump in the ocean and walk the beach, however the seaweed is so thick (this could be seasonal as I didn't see this noted on any other reviews), but we did venture across and through the seaweed to the resort north of the villa to walk their beach where they rake and backhoe the seaweed every day (so that should give you an indication of the amount that is on the beach daily).

Other things to share: the beds are on traditional cement platforms (hard). the charcoal grill is doable as long as you use the wood sticks near the charcoal to get it started, and there is no dishwasher. While the villa is self contained, it is part of a complex. You will see and hear the other guests on the property.

At the end of the day, we had a good time at Villa Caracol. I would ask the owners about the seaweed, and if seasonal, would recommend a visit only during that timeframe as that was the largest disappointed.

The seagrass is the result of a healthy coastline: the reef is alive and the seaweed and sea grass grows along the coast. There has been more seagrass along the coast in 2015 and it seems to be everywhere, certainly not just around Puerto Morelos, even around parts of Texas coastline I hear. It is usually inoffensive and it doesn't put us off swimming but we completely understand that it's not for everyone. Villa Caracol is absolutely oceanfront but for pure beach, you will need to walk a few minutes north or south. We would love to put a dishwasher in but the salt in the air corrodes appliances so quickly that it just isn't worth it. Marlene is happy to provide a daily washing-up, tidying up service and that is something you can arrange with her upon arrival.
Just glad that you enjoyed your trip.

“Perfect family Getaway”

Brought the whole family with us on this trip. Great location away from the craziness of Cancun and the traffic of Playa del Carmen. Everything was great from the moment we got there. Leo helped us with getting familiar with the property and was there immediately when the A/C went down in the living room. Came back in the afternoon and it was fixed. Remember you will need a rental car here- would not recommend taxis. You are a few miles from Puerto Morelos so unless you are going to eat all your meals at the villa it is nice to have the flexibility of a car. The property is oceanfront, not beachfront-you will not be jumping into the sea at water's edge. Again-nice having a car to go into PM. Amy spent every morning in her beachchair with her coffee and a book watching the sun rise. Do to tequila, I missed a few of those. Hey. I'm on vacation. Refrigerator was stocked with all the basics to get us thru the first morning and more. Had a perfect stay. Owners were very helpful with any and all questions we had.

The Villa Caracol was amazing. From the moment we got out of our car we were in awe. From the blooming trees and palm trees at the entrance , through the villa and out the patio doors to the beach, wow. It is absolutely beautiful. There was lots of room, lots of privacy , wonderfully helpful staff . We will come again.

There is sometimes sea grass on the beach because the reef and ocean here are living and healthy. The amount of grass depends upon the season and tides. The grass has no odour and is not slimy or unpleasant. Beaches without sea grass can be found north or south within a five minute walk along the coast where the resorts rake the beaches. All beaches in Mexico are public and are therefore for your use so it is easy to avoid the sea grass if preferred!
