We were visiting Big Sur Sept 15-17 and the fires were still burning on the East side of the mountain so most of the parks were still closed. We researched a bit more and took the 40 minute drive south and decided on trying this park. I was really happy we did. It was a moderate hike over small streams and a bit uphill but great paths to follow and well maintained. It wasn't crowded and I love getting to see waterfalls. California is very dry but the waterfall was running great. Then after the hike you can go under the bridge and see the Ocean. Just an overall fun day. I would recommend it.

I really wanted to make time for this stop, with its 2 main trails to the limestone kilns and the falls. It is a State park with an entry fee, and limited parking. You walk through the campground to get to the trails. There are more trails around the Park, but we did only 2 as it was foggy that day and we needed to get down Highway 1. The trails have many redwoods and other beautiful trees and is very shaded. The Kilns trail is easy to do, and if you read the history in the pamphlet you will be amazed they are still standing. The trail to the waterfalls was quite a bit harder, and there are several areas you have to cross creeks and climb over a redwood that had fallen down. But, the end result was stunning. Twin 100 ft waterfalls with water flowing over little dams. It was so peaceful and beautiful here. I wish we had more time to see the other trails. Wonderful State park.

When you want a break from the beach or the beautiful coastal views while exploring Big Sur, take a few hours to hike up through this lush forest to the waterfalls at Limekiln State Park. Great camping sites available too.

Another California State Park gem with brooks and wildlife, dense forests and lovely trails. Beware park closings when wildfires rage, but if you can get it, it's another outdoor gem.

The Limekiln State Park is a great place for a hike in the Redwoods. The are a couple of marked trails to the historic Kilns and to a nice waterfall. We hiked all the trails and hiked a total of about 5km.
