We popped in for a visit. Highway 1 is still closed north of Ragged Point. Lovely restaurant and some fantastic rooms with wonderful ocean views.

On Tuesday, 18 Sept. 2017, we planned our arrival at Ragged Point 45 minutes before sunset, at about 6:30 pm. At that time there were many people outdoors enjoying drinks on the heated patio area at the back of the restaurant. We walked out behind the restaurant to view the garden and gazebo next to the cliff. The view looking north along the shore is very picturesque. We took photos then and even left our meal a few times to return and get more terrific photos as the sunset progressed. Tripod recommended. This stop also includes a full restaurant, Sandwich Shop with baked goods, an Espresso Bar and an Ice Cream Stand as well a gas station.

We travelled from San Simeon to Ragged Point to look at the road block and stopped for coffee and a stretch of our legs at the Inn. A nice little location with a small convenience shop, plus a gift/clothes shop attached to the Inn. The restaurant was closed when we arrived, mbut we ordered coffee and sat in the lovely gardens. This is a big, popular place and worth the trip - even though you can't progress along the coast road. Great coffee, great bar tender.

Even though the coastal highway is blocked here going north it is still worth the trip. We stayed the night at Morro Bay. After seeing the elephant seals the afternoon before we ate breakfast and went to the road block. The views were wonderful and the officer assigned to watch the barricade at the road closing was friendly as informative. We got to see a steady parade of trucks bringing huge boulders to the rockslide that caused to road closure. The guard explained how they were using these boulders to eventually make the road usable. We lost over 4 hours because of the road closing but we had already scheduled this into our trip.

Travelling the coast road, the road is permanently cut between Ragged point and Big Sur. We enjoyed Ragged Point views of the cliffs and amazing road engineering, reckon it was worth the detour to the Point and the elephant seal colony on the way and then back to San Simeon.
