The Locks is an amazing, spacious place, with room for everyone! Where so many places fall down on "sleeps 10" but only have lounge space or dining chairs for half a dozen, The Locks scores every time - from the vast dining table in the kitchen, to two huge lounge areas, each one big enough for everybody. The four main bedrooms were large and comfortable too. We loved the pool table and bar area, while those looking for quieter corners had space to set up jigsaw puzzles upstairs and down without them getting in the way of anyone else.
If I had to quibble about anything, it'd be two things: there's a bit of TLC needed in places for the property to really present itself well (silly stuff like loose wall fittings, light fittings, socket plates, etc.), and the kitchen needs a bit of a sort out... there's LOADS of cupboards, each with loads of stuff in, but apart from crockery there aren't many 'sets' - especially of wine glasses, flutes, tumblers, or mugs, so you rather have to cobble together the best you can find!
We had a fantastic stay at this guest house this weekend. The house was clean and had all of the necessaries that we needed. The bedrooms were clean as was the kitchen. The bedroom door in one of the rooms didn't close fully and the shower door was a little 'wonky' but this didn't affect our opinions of the house. The pool room was amazing and with our own bar we had no need to move from this room. The owners came over and introduced themselves making it very seamless. I would definetly recommend this guest house to anyone else looking for a nice getaway to a lovely town.
Looking for a wonderful home away from home which is even better than home? Look no further than the Locks, Rogerstone, Newport, Wales. It is spotlessly clean, spacious beyond belief, and fully equipped with everything you could possibly need for your stay.
We stayed in the Locks for 5 days recently, to attend our daughter’s wedding, and so there were a lot of family members meeting up for lengthy cups of tea and chats. We all fit easily in the large comfortable chairs around the massive kitchen table, with room to spare surrounded by fully stocked cupboards and counter space topped off with a huge wall-mounted TV.
A door led off into an immaculate private garden which had a variety of cosy seating arrangements and a grassy area which caught the sun’s rays all day.
It has ample sleeping accommodation and no shortage of toilets and bathrooms. The bedrooms are spacious and one has a single room attached which is perfect for a small family with an older child who wants to sleep close to mum and dad but in his own room. Each room had its own distinct decorative theme and every convenience was thought of with oodles of wardrobe space with plenty of hangers, and hairdryers and televisions in most rooms.
We never had to entertain our grandchildren (8yrs and 2) who loved the huge upstairs room fully equipped with a pool table and other games and the menfolk could ‘babysit’ without feeling that they were actually babysitting as there was something for all age groups. Then, when the menfolk had ‘worked hard’ they retired to the private cinema to watch the latest horse race, football game or movie, in the luxury of comfortable armchairs and surround sound.
The house is fully carpeted and double-glazed which made it wonderfully cosy as the temperature inside did not vary from one room to the next, perfect for the usually cold, grey UK climate.
The house is centrally located being just minutes from the M4 and has on its doorstep a very pleasant walk around the Locks.
Everyone was thrilled with the house and praised my choice; I was just very lucky to have found it. Thank you Geraldine and Steve.
