In spite of our late arrival we were warmly welcomed into this lovely home. Our room was large, light, well appointed and on the ground floor. On this particular trip we stayed in a dozen B&B's and this would have been the best although not all that easy to find. The host had good suggestions for evening meals and provided breakfast with a friendly chat

Great location, with super facilities, most welcoming and charming hosts.
A perfect base for touring around - surrounded by Constable country - Flatford is only a short drive away.
Dave & Maureen's breakfasts are not to be missed! Would recommend and certainly go back.

What a great find. A ten minutes drive away from Stoke near Nayland Golf Course. We chose the studio option. A spacious, extremely clean room, decorated to a very modern standard. A compact bathroom with a strong, electric shower. The studio is equipped with a fridge, a modern electric hob, full household utensils, glasses and cutlery, iron and ironing board, a 40" flat screen TV, smart sofa bed and spacious, comfortable double bed. There was the added bonus of a small, decked, separate patio area, perfect for sunbathing or just to enjoy the views and fresh air. The owners were friendly and very hospitable. We opted for cooked breakfast and we were not disappointed. A selection of fresh fruit, cereals, yoghurt, with the option of fresh tea and coffee. This set up us nicely for the Full English breakfast, perfect for our long drive home. All in all an extremely pleasant stay, fantastic value for money and an accommodation which I would highly recommend.

Polstead Lodge is not really on the way from or to anywhere, which makes it a delightful, quiet spot. We booked via Booking.com, which doesn't give quite as accurate impression as their own site does. Theirs is clear that it is a B&B, so expectations could differ. We ended up in what they called "The Studio", which looks like a fairly recent conversion and is separate from the house. It is really a self-catering chalet and suited us well, except that the inclusive "continental breakfast" was nothing of the sort. Some packets of kids cereals, loaf of bread and some jam and marmalade. You would be well advised to take what you need unless you opt for the cooked breakfast, which we did not need.
The room was very clean and modern and had nice TV, toaster, iron, kettle, microwave, oven, hob, but no hairdryer, wi-fi, drawers, or long hanging. We did advise them to put some hooks in, as we had to leave longer things draped over furniture.
There is a grass parking area which can be seen in their site and you are advised to use it as the gravel area round the main house gets very tight. A small car might be able to turn round in this, but we found ourselves having to reverse very gingerly down a very long narrow driveway a couple of times. Do practice your tight reversing. We didn't find the switch for hot water and didn't bother to go ask, which is really our fault. We thought just run it long enough, but there is a hidden switch. Overall though very pleasant if you come prepared. My wife really enjoyed the seclusion of the studio.

Room Tip: We can only speak for the studio.

Thank you for your review and your comments re hooks for long hanging items has been attended to. The hairdryer is located in a bedside drawer. Free Wi-Fi is available in the main house. Re your comment "In the Middle of Nowhere". We are 1 mile from the village of Stoke by Nayland and half a mile from Polstead village centre.
Polstead Lodge is situated in the Dedham Vale, an area of outstanding natural beauty, which boasts peace and tranquillity.

We had to catch the tide in the morning at Walton on the Naze. Driving from Bristol to be there on time would have meant a very early start. We found Polstead Lodge ... was like 'home away from home' and less than an hours drive to our friend's boat.
