The location is stunning and away from civilisation and therefore very quiet. Having read the guest reviews and seen the photos we were really looking forward to our stay. Unfortunately we were somewhat disappointed, the room was rather dated and cold (it was January) but the bed was quite comfortable. The pillow cases were clean but the pillows themselves did have a slight smell. The lavatory did work but part of the mechanism was missing.
The staff were very helpful but only spoke Spanish. We had an evening meal in the restaurant with another English couple who were staying at the hotel. The food was not that good for a 4 star hotel, although the wine was excellent. In the morning the gates were locked so I could not get out to walk my dog until nearly 9 am. The breakfast was adequate but, again, not up to 4 star standard. The previous night we stayed at a 3 star hotel (Secotel Hotel Ciudad de Burgos) which was far superior and slightly cheaper.
