We booked these rooms as it was good value and we intended to drive to attractions around Hobart/Tasmania. While not in Hobart, it was not far to drive (30 minutes) and was closer to Port Arthur and other detinations we visited, so it was a good choice for us. We went to Hobart quite often for dinner and it was no trouble as we had a hire car. The rooms were clean, quiet, and the staff were very friendly.

Room Tip: Rooms at the back of the site were away from the hotel and quiet.

We had chosen this hotel due to Hobart being booked out and while it is a good choice you are not close to the city and there isn't an abundance of restaurants if you are interested in dining out. This property is nice though and has the convenience of a bistro and a bakery nearby to grab a quick breakfast. Be sure to keep your curtain closed if it is windy or cold. The weekend we were in Hobart they experienced 45-65km winds and there was quite a large gap between the door and wall where the wind howled through if the curtain wasn't stopping it. It also meant we could hear everything the neighbours were saying while they sat out the back until 2am. Thankfully that was only one night and the following night was very peaceful.

My husband and I stayed at this motel for 2 nights. The room was great. Lots of room, clean and everything needed in it. We had a few extra visitors (ants) but one quick telephone call to a friendly receptionist and these were quickly sorted.

We had breakfast at the bakery close by but wished that we had have gone somewhere else. Warm pies and coffee that had so much froth it could hardly be called coffee at all really.

We thought this was a 5 star experience until we checked out. The receptionist told us that we had not paid anything towards the room. We had booked through the website for the motel and had a receipt saying that we had paid for both nights in full however only one night was taken out of our credit card. We were happy to tell her this and to pay the second night. However, when she started getting quite upset because it wasn't on her system and asked if I had a receipt, I really lost interest. Her excuse was she had had 2 days off. perhaps more were needed so she could return rested.

We also told her that the door between our room and the next was open but she refused to believe this. So make sure that you check this so that you know your gear is safe.

So would we stay again - yes we would. However, we would make sure we had our bank statement to prove what we had paid and would hope that this grumpy woman had found a different job.

Fiona T, Manager at Brighton Hotel Motel, responded to this reviewResponded August 12, 2013

Thank you for taking the time to provide us with your valuable feedback. It is through such observations that we are able to pursue the standard of service that we constantly strive to attain.

Here at the Brighton Hotel Motel we pride ourselves on both our product and service. We are extremely disappointed on the rare occasion that we received justifiable guest complaints. Nevertheless, we are pleased that you have sufficient faith in us to bring this matter to our attention, thus giving us an opportunity to put things right.

In response to your complaint re the payment, after your check out the problem was found due to your deposit not been transferred on check in thus showing you hadnt paid a deposit when in fact you had. Our terms and conditions at time of booking is one nights deposit and pay balance on arrival. As the receptionist hadnt transferred this and I had just come in on shift the deposit hadnt shown. Our oversite but a genuine mistake that was sorted out straight away. In regards to the interconnecting door, there are 2 doors and the one to the adjoining room was locked so no access, only the other door your was unlocked so no one could enter anyway unless both were opened. I tried to explain this but to no avail, no grumpiness just a mis- understanding and how the complaint was presented.

Please accept my sincere apology that you were unable to enjoy all aspects of your stay, and be assured that corrective action has been taken to rectify our shortcomings

Ended up taking this hotel when all rooms in town were booked, due to festival/regatta. Hotel/motel was modest but new and comfortable. Being a ways out of Hobart, the lodging was on the way to drives across the island--and seeing more of Tasmania was simply spectacular.

On our recent trip to Tassie, we stayed at Brighton motel hotel as I struggled to find accommodation in Hobart due to the long weekend and various festivals that were on.
However to my surprise we were very pleased that we stayed there. The place was very convenient, only a 20 min drive to hobart and it was super clean almost new looking, great bakery next door served yummy pastries and coffee.
