My wife and I rented this villa from the 1st to the 11th October 2019 via the Cuboshomes.com website.
First, let me say what a beautiful villa The Orange Tree is. It is very clean, a lot of indoor and outdoor space, the kitchen is adequate and all the seating comfortable. There are two outdoor seating areas with lots of seating and tables to enjoy an early morning coffee or an evening meal under the stars. The pool although not heated is a cool place to be in the heat of the day. It is about 1.4m deep at the shallow end and about 1.7m at the deep end, so families with little children take note. There are pool lounger chairs and sun shades. You can get lovely sunsets looking out from the pool area over to the mountains.
With this being a rural location, we found that all the restaurants in the immediate area did not start serving food on an evening until 8pm, the coastal towns I would think serve food all day and evening.
The countryside around Cartama is stunning, green fields and tree covered mountains. There are lots of villages and towns and beautiful lakes to visit along with the coastal towns of Fuengirola, Benalmadena, Torremolinos and of course Malaga.
The main trouble we had was the loose stone tracks to the villa from the main road, A-7059, there had been heavy rain in the weeks before we arrived, and the water had washed down these tracks causing deep ruts in the tracks which were difficult to drive along, although the Cubo`s people didn`t think this was anything to bother about, but in our rented Micra is was very bumpy!
Other problems we had were that one of the wardrobe doors was loose and just about hanging off its hinges. The walk-in shower riser rail was loose and so the shower was not useable, the other shower in the bath was really nice though. There is no fire blanket or extinguisher, or first aid kit, which considering the very rural location of the villa, we would expect these to be available, the kettle in the kitchen leaked when being poured and could cause scalding if not careful. We did contact Cubo`s about these but nothing was done in the 10 days we were there. Two of the plastic chairs in the outside area to the back were broken and just left there, someone had even tried to repair one, but it had not been successful.
We have been to many villas in Spain and Portugal and all have had a pack of information with details of how to work the electrical equipment within the villa, washer, dishwasher, TV etc and emergency numbers for police, doctors, hospitals etc. But for whatever reason there was nothing of this sort here, when we contacted Cubo`s about this they sent the numbers via text but didn`t seem too concerned that this information was not available to start with.
Even with these problems, we had a fab time and truly enjoyed our stay, we would go back to the area but choose another villa closer to the main roads.
