We called in here briefly after our Segway ride. We only had a half hour and it was not long enough to view all the galleries. I would recommend allowing at least an hour depending on your interest. Even if you are not an art lover you will still appreciate the exhibits. Cafe does really nice coffee and cake.

Thank Julie B

We attend the Cartier Exhibition on show at the NGA in Canberra. The display had many beautiful pieces of jewelry that belongs to the Royal family and Celebrities really worth a visit if in Canberra while this Exhibition is being held. After visiting the Exhibition you can then wander around the NGA and view other collections that are on show. Worth a look is the Sidney Nolan - Ned Kelly collection in the Australia section.

After a quick look at some iconic parts of the gallery we spent a couple of hours at NGA Play. A really inventive space with art activities, digital media activities and some hands of things to do. The staff member in the area was fabulous and really engaged with my kids to help them enjoy the space.

The Gallery boasts an eclectic collection of works of art, but the Australian section of traditional artworks and impressionists is regrettably only small and the collections in State galleries in NSW, Victoria and South Australia far surpass the "national" collection. The emphasis seems to be more on contemporary art.

Having said that, it is an interesting collection and well worth the visit if in Canberra for other reasons. Parking is on site but expensive.
