Owner description: The home of Australia's Parliament and the meeting place of a nation, Australian Parliament House offers visitors to Canberra a unique experience.

I've been to Parliament House several times over the years. I think all Australians would want to see it for themselves and hopefully at a time when they can see our elected representatives in debate. I'm not sure if the building and the contents would be very edifying for non-Australian visitors.

On this visit I only dropped in for a short time hoping to see the end of Question Time in the House of Reps. I only ended up catching a part of a debate on the amendments to a bill in a near empty house.

My main tip for visitors when Parliament is in session is to listen to ABC Radio National (the Parliamentary broadcaster 2PB on 103.9MHz in Canberra) on your way to and from Parliament House. This way you will be able to put the session that you see in a better context and will get to hear the result of "your" debate if it is still going when you depart.

It's a very modern building with many beautiful pieces of art lining the halls. Fascinating political history and amazing architecture.

Free entry and free under-cover parking. Beautiful gardens, architecture and artwork. Free tour is informative and entertaining and is geared towards all ages. You could spend days wandering around and still not see everything. There is information on the architecture, materials, parliamentary figures, processes, works of art etc., so there should be something to suit everyone. Yummy food in cafe and according to what we were told, the furniture in there is the same quality and custom design as elsewhere in the building, to provide equality for all. Parking limit is 2 hrs I think, but we stayed longer and weren't fined. Two hours is not long enough.

Interesting and very educational. The building has a bit of a special vibe about it.
