I have just spent three nights at the Holiday Inn on Harbour st. Darling Harbour. The room was large , extremely clean as was the bathroom. Even though close to a lot of building works due to the revamping of Darling Harbor Found the hotel very quiet even on the reception floor .Toilets did make a noise when first flushed and cold water tap also. But not a big issue
We were in Sydney to see a show at the Capital theatre and is only a few minutes walk to there .a few minutes walk to China Town and the City Markets . An easy walk into the restaurants and general area of Darling Harbor. Where you can get the ferry into Circular Quay Parramatta river service ,across the Harbour to Milsons point etc.
would stay there again if planning another typing to a Sydney. A

Room tip: Stayed on the second floor facing the street no issues

When planing our vacation, we needed a hotel in Sydney for a few nights after departing the cruise ship. This location was suggested by a friend of ours who is an airline pilot. Good call. It's proximity to Darling Harbor, cost, amenities, all turned out to be a good fit. Since we were not renting a car (off site car park negatives would have factored in), we needed to take a cab in from the port (not too bad), and book a shuttle out to the airport (recommended), after we found no Holiday Inn courtesy shuttle was available.

Our check in was seamless, and a large British Airways crew followed behind us, as efficient check in /out is necessary given the small lobby area. The friendly desk clerk handed us two bottles of water, and it was up to the room. Clean, quiet, and like many hotels with "energy saving features", you must leave a room key inserted in a wall switch to operate the A/C, any bathroom lights, most room lights, save the reading lights over the bed. We left one in place to have a comfortably cool room to come back to.

I looked for the usual ice bucket to fetch some, as the bottled water we received was not chilled. Not finding one, I was off on a little adventure to acquire the desired ice. Needing some plastic cups, a visit to the third floor spa/gym, where it is dispensed by a water cooler (crushed), as politely explained to me by the front desk. The room did have an empty "as you like it" fridge to keep items cold. An over priced mini bar might be missed by some, but I rarely use them. Ah, refreshing success!

The bathroom was spotless, however the shower head was old & leaky (no pressure) a disappointment for sure. That insured the drain should not back up, it flowed. The bath tub had a rounded bottom that was about six inches higher then the floor. That meant you had to be very careful by stepping over and down. "Firmly" affixing the bath mat to the tub was clearly posted and emphasized. I learned many of the bathrooms vary in this hotel, and I wondered if ours was more of an rare exception than the rule.

The very comfortable Queen beds were a most welcome relief after sleeping on a stateroom twin for thirteen nights, two of them a rather rough Tasman sea crossing! Some pillows were labeled soft and firm. Is this hard to determine? Our fourth floor room faced the back, and possibly due to the Easter holiday weekend, was quiet both day and night. I've read some complaints about construction noise, so, lucky for us then!!

The buffet breakfast served in Shipley's "restaurant" starting @ 6:30am, is not always complimentary, but a $29.95 regular adult fare (NOT posted on the website). The in-room dinning service menu PDF shows NO breakfast selections! JB's "lounge" serves an all day breakfast (1selection) starting at 11:00 am for $15.95. Depending on your IHG status, the buffet can be included, it was for us. Yay, IHG rewards! The lounge also has an extensive dinner/ lunch menu featuring a unique "stone grill" dinning experience. it also has a full bar. We only ordered soft drinks there, yet the friendly bar staff served us with premium top shelf like service. Nice touch.

My recommendation for the buffet is you get there way early. We arrived at 7:30am and the place was near full. The serving area has two long counters with a much too narrow area between. While navigating to fill my plate, it became a tedious exercise in "excuse me", "thank you", "please". The traditional english breakfast fare, with some asian selections, tasted fine, loved those small pancakes!! While you can order espresso, and cappuccino from the staff, the regular coffee was up to par for me, though refills came a bit slow. We finished near 8:30am and walked out past a large waiting crowd of unsmiling faces. This buffet facility presents some challenges that Holiday Inn can hopefully solve.

Check out was easy, with lots of desk staff to handle the crowded lobby. Air crews coming and going. They secured our luggage so we could spend the afternoon getting in some sights. Helpful with maps, coupons, advice, I can recommend this location for ease of walking to shopping, transportation, dining options. Just get your hungry self to the buffet early. My other suggestions: Every shower head checked, repaired, or replaced. A "real" ice machine somewhere, with inexpensive plastic buckets on request. (Hmm, is this an American thing?)

Room tip: This is a re-purposed warehouse, so the rooms are quite varied. Call the hotel desk directly if you have questions prior to booking.

We stayed for 2 nights over a weekend (Friday - Sunday).

Without knowing much about the hotel I was pleasantly surprised by the location of this property, a 2 minute walk to Market City, 10 minutes to Darling Harbour and 15 minutes to Pyrmont and The Star casino complex. Faultless location, I would stay here again just for this.

However, check-in was rushed and inattentive - more of a production line focussed experience then a true customer focussed experience. We weren't even told which room we were in, we had to go back and ask when we realised that she hadn't written it on the key holder.

The room was clean but dated. It was starting to show its age in places, however, for the price an location it was excellent, as we only needed a bed and a room to rest in during the evenings.

Breakfast was the usual buffet fare, nothing special though.

Check out was painless and quickly processed although the inability to charge the credit card on file was a bit perplexing, requiring another card to be used.

All in all, the Holiday Inn Darling Harbour is an average hotel saved by its close proximity to the CBD, Darling Harbour, and The Star complex. If you are looking for a luxurious, endearing hotel experience, this isn't it, but if you are looking for a no frills room and breakfast service - somewhere to rest your body after a day of exploring Sydney and surrounds, this is hands down the place to stay.

what you would expect for a Holiday Inn. It is nothing spectacular but worth the dollars spent. It is within a 10 min walk of the harbour which is spectacular. There is quite a bit of construction in the area so make sure you have good directions or it is easy to get off track to the harbour.

All was good we checked in got a nice clean room on the 11th floor ,staff was great. At about 10.00pm heard water running from the ceiling with a large puddle forming on the carpet. so after trying to ring reception for 5 minutes with no luck my wife went down to the foyer to report the water. The staff told us someone would be up in ten minutes. After 30 minutes of waiting I went down and was told someone will be there soon. At this point I said all we want to do is go to sleep so was given another room at 10.45 pm. Shame it happened as hotel is very nice and breakfast was great.
