Lots of friends were encouraging us to do the bridge walk but neither of us felt we could justify the $363 fee each, as you can’t take any photos yourself, you can opt for the Pylon lookout which appeared really popular on Thurs 5/4 when we were there & costs $15 for an adult & $10 for a child, easy to find at the mid point of the bridge. We didn’t embark on this either, but opted to walk both ways, this was free of charge, due to the elevated position it still afforded some wonderful views of the city & the amazing Opera House, please note there are extensive mesh railings on both sides with a small gap at the bottom that your camera or phone will fit through, this is for clearly in situ to prevent jumpers. It was a great walk & one I’m pleased we undertook, so easy to access from the Rocks area & well signposted.

I did the Sydney harbour bridge climb (3.5 hours) on Thur 15/3/18 and it was amazing. Whilst an expensive tour well worth every penny. If you book through yha hostel you can get some discount of the price. After the bridge climb I got to have the 7 second video for free, I also got a certificate, hat and a group photo included for free. I was also given a free voucher for the climb up to the Sydney harbour bridge Pylon lookout which normally costs $15 each. I also did the walk up to the pylon lookout. Well worth it as an alternative as you get some great views from up there and you can see the people who are doing the bridge climb.

We didn't do the over bridge walk as it was quite high and i'm not too keen but we did see the Bridge from the Road, the Botanical Gardens and the Harbour Cruise and its something you have to see if visiting Sydney

We were intending to walk the harbour bridge while we stayed a few days in Sydney. However we were given a tip by a friend who lives in Sydney to get almost the same experience without the same expense. She told us to access the footpath which runs all across the bridge and continue along until we came to the first pylon. This structure is visible on all pictures of the bridge. Here you can gain access via stairs to the top of the pylon, which is equivalent to about half way up the bridge span. There is a 360 degrees walkway at the top which enables you to take all the photographs you like, at your leisure , with the Opera House in the background. The climb is easily accomplished at your own pace inside the pylon. It was a very windy day when we chose to visit here but we were sheltered . Highly recommend this as an alternative . There is a nominal charge for climbing the pylon which is around one tenth of the cost of doing the official bridge climb.

Impressive from all angles as expected, was nice to witness the historical placards explaining the history of the area. I didn’t actually walk the bridge, but for budget travellers, walking underneath both sides of the bridge will suffice.
