Had the pleasure of staying here and socialising here for 10 days and nights and I couldn’t have had a better time. Rooms are basic but it’s all about the location and as for the staff well they keep you fed and watered and really make the place.
Would highly recommend and thanks for a great time (even if you couldn’t understand my accent sometimes!!!)

My Irish husband had to visit the oldest Irish Pub! The drinks were quite reasonably priced here—we also had fish and chips. Our favorite part about the Pub was the live music. They even played some classic Irish songs. I would recommend for a quick bite. Walkable from the opera house as well.

This hotel is in a prime location. I love the fact you can walk to the Opera House, Sydney Bridge and is in an area, the 'Rocks", which offers plenty of shopping, restaurants and pubs. The bathroom is in the hall, but we didnt share it with anyone, as each room had a bathroom across the hall. The best part is we were taking a cruise from Circular Quay and we could walk to the pier!!! Also should mention a great bar downstairs and the best cappucino in town!

Great old hotel, if you like to enjoy the old style rooms with big windows. Shared bathrooms were clean and just across the room. Water service was great. Portable AC was good. Beds were comfortable. Superb location if you are budget traveler to visit the Rocks. Circular Quay and Sydney Bridge close by. I like the area too. Would definitely stay again when in Sydney for the convenience of exploring the area or taking a ferry to Manly or a cruise.

Room tip: Rooms are in the 2nd floor.

The Mercantile is the longest running Irish pub in Australia. Excellent selection of beers on tap. Had the lunch special of chicken schnitzel which was fantastic. The bar staff were very accommodating about allowing us to try several of the different beers on tap since we were unfamiliar with most of them.
