“Wonderful stay in Sydney”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 9 May 2012

Started our vacation at The Bed and Breakfast Sydney Harbour. Great location and easy walk to the harbour, the Sydney Opera House and botanical gardens.
Traveled with our adult sons, stayed in the Lachlan room and had our own bathroom.
Jeff is a great host. The price is reasonable for a rather expensive city.
Wonderful breakfast everyday.

Room Tip: Lachlan room is good for a family of four. Lots of stairs.

Perfect location and setting at the "Rocks" in Sydney. Near everything, but quiet and nice breakfast and patio.

Room Tip: Upper floor room can see the Opera House

4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 13 April 2012

I stayed here with my two teenage daughters for a week recently. I chose the place because of the great reviews on Tripadvisor, and must say we really enjoyed our stay and think the reviews give a good impression of the B/B.

Sydney is an extremely expensive city to stay in so finding somewhere like this with very reasonable rates in such a great location was a real bonus. The B/B is two old brick buildings converted and made into one B/B. It has loads of character and is amazingly well located in the Rocks area, right next to the Shangri-La Hotel and within about 5-10 minutes walk to Circular Quay and easy walking distance (15-20 mins) to the stunning Opera House and the beautiful Botanical Gardens. Beware if you have heavy suitcases as there are a lot of stairs in the B/B to get to the rooms (there is no lift) - we didn't mind though as the stairs added character to the B/B. There are also a LOT of steps to get down to Circular Quay though, and it did get a little tiring climbing up them again each day to get back to the B/B but there is another route avoiding the steps, which takes a little longer if steps are a problem.

We stayed in the Lachlan room on the 2nd (top) floor. It was a good size room with a double bed (which was incredibly comfortable) and two singles in a separate area- perfect for families. There was no view as it looked out onto the road and to the front of the B/B but we didn't mind that - we weren't there much during the day. It was a little noisy sometimes if we had the window open, but not overly so. The bathroom which we had to ourselves (some others have ensuites, some have shared bathrooms), was just down the hall - this was slightly annoying initially with three of us needing to use it, but nothing unmanageable and we soon got used to it. The shower was very good and lots of hot water.
The room was airconditioned which is certainly essential in Sydney's summer and early autumn months (and it was quite warm while we were there and we were on the top floor where the brick house that the B/B is was at its warmest, this was essential). However the aircon only really serviced the part of the room where the double bed was, and it did get rather warm where my daughters' beds were located - another unit in that area would have been ideal. One day the aircon broke, but Jeff, the owner, happily brought some fans up. Jeff was very helpful and chatty while we were there, made us feel very at home, and his little dog "Mate" was so friendly and absolutely made the place.
The breakfasts were huge and very good indeed. Breakfast (as is dining out generally) is extremely expensive in Sydney and it was very good value to have such a large breakfast each day for the price of the B/B. You could sit at the dining room table or sit outside. The B/B was pretty full while we were there (which was good as we got to chat to many interesting people) so it was rare to be able to sit at the dining room table -we mostly ate outside. This was fine on sunny mornings, but I did find the courtyard a bit shady and it definitely would be rather cold in the less sunny months. You could have what you wanted for breakfast in terms of fruit, cereal, toast, and various types of cooked breakfasts. However, being naturally very late risers, we would have ideally liked the breakfasts to be served up to 10am - they started breakfast only at 7:30pm (which some people said they found a little late for them) and finished at 9am which is a bit early for me on holiday as I like to eat late!
The only two negatives I have about the B/B were firstly that for the first few days Jeff was away on a business trip and another girl was running the B/B for him. She was perfectly polite, but unfortunately did not understand people, including us, very well at all when spoken to. Her English was very poor, so making conversation with her, or asking any questions about the B/B or the area generally was very difficult indeed and meant that the friendly convival host- atmosphere of a B/B (which Jeff provided when he got back) didn't really exist for the first three days of our stay.
The other negative was we did not think some of the housekeeping was done efficiently. Our beds were not made at all while Jeff was away, although this did occur once he returned. The bathroom, particularly the toilet, was often not cleaned properly.
However we did enjoy our stay very much and would recommend the B/B and would definitely considering staying there again if we return to Sydney.

We spent our final night in Sydney at the B&B and it was a nice experience. There were some slightly noisy guests next door but they apologized the next morning. We heard them coming in during the night so it's not a sound proof room but the Phillip Room has a view of the Opera House so it's a nice detail. The room is cozy and the bathroom has a shower. The breakfast of cold items and cooked to order eggs was a tasty start to our final day. Not a cheap hotel but definitely quality especially with the cute dog "Mate" greeting you G'day at the door. Jeff was very nice and let us keep our luggage during the day before we left. Good value and a good location in the Rocks.

There is no shortage of accommodation in central Sydney, but this converted and updated boarding house in the heart of the rocks is one of a kind. Jeff provides great personalized service. The main house has heaps of character with lovely old photos of Sydney on the walls.. Some of the rooms have shared bathrooms, which won't be to everyone's taste, but others have dedicated bathrooms. The B and B is just near the Cahill Expressway, so there is a bit of traffic noise. But it is also in a fantastic location a couple of minutes' walk from Circular Quay. There is also a lovely courtyard where breakfast is served.
Would definitely return.

We stayed 2 nights at the end of our trip. Location was brilliant, just minutes from the Bridge and the Opera house. Was a brilliant place to be based. Breakfast was very good with lots of options. House is lovely and the rooms were nice and spacious.

A great band b in the heart of the Rocks. It is in the perfect location just a short walk from the Opera house and the beautiful Botanic gardens. Circular Quay from which all the ferries depart, and a main hub for the bus and tram again is 5 minutes away.
The B and B itself is in a large 1900 era house, which oozes charm and characteur. Our room was a good size and equipped with a comfortable bed. We loved sharing breakfast around a large table with other guests so we could swap plans for the day, or ther were seperate tables where could you sit in the garden if you were feeling anti social. Geoff the proprietor is a lovely guy with a lovely quiet sense of humour, who did everything to assist us with all our requests. We would have stayed longer but could'nt as Geoff was fully booked for the extra days. All in all I recommend this place as a great and convenient base from which to explore Sydney.
