Good location but a bit of a hike from kings cross down to the city, and not something I would do of a night, a taxi ride without a doubt once the sun goes down!.....

There is a marina close by which is very nice with bars and restaurants and also you have kings cross itself which the hotel is well away from the seedy side.

The hotel itself is a beautiful period building with a laundry room which came in very handy.

The rooms are very small, something which if you intended on spending an extended period in there, would be an issue, but for explorers like ourselves, it wasn’t!!!

The hotel wasn’t the cheapest we seen in Sydney, but worth what we paid 100%

The staff were very friendly and rooms kept clean and tidy, along with the hotel itself which was immaculate!

The area is wonderful and there is a little bit of a walk down to the train station, however, it`s a nice easy stroll - no hills, which makes it easy if people need to carry suitcases.

Found staff at reception not very co'operative and as unhelpful as they could be
We didn't get a room on the top floor which we ask for we were on the back of the property that overlooked a school yard so early in the morning we could hear chidren doing what they do making a noise
We found the room and hotel to be clean and tidy but the room was on the small side
One big problem for us was when we came back to our room after being out all day at around 10 the door was propped open with a towel i guess by the cleaners who were long time finished their shift luckily for us nothing was taken . We said to the reception staff about this and we got the impression that they wasnt really bothered

Thank you for taking the time to review the stay with us recently. We are very sorry to read that despite our huge efforts your experience in the hotel remained to be somewhat pleasant.

We are surprised to find out that you were ultimately upset by not getting a room on the top floor. Allow us to mention, that the property does have the right to not always accommodate the clients in accordance with their requests, simply, because of occupancy, availability and the situation that it present at the moment of check-in. Let us assure you, that we did our best in order to allocate the best possible room for you while our occupancy was 100%.

The room descriptions are well presented on our website, which allows the guests to take into account all the pros and cons prior to making the reservation. We are sorry you chose a small room for your stay.

We are also sorry that the House Keeping Department left the door open and, as we both know well, the reception staff went out of their way to apologize and to assist you with the matter, even though it was not their fault. We find it to be unfair to put the blame on our reception staff and criticize them for something that they had no power over.

We would like to use this opportunity to express our sincere apologies to you for the inconvenience that you had to deal with while staying at Hotel Challis, and to reassure you, that we take absolute pride in delivering the best possible service to our guests.

We know that your next stay will be beautiful.

We are looking forward to seeing you back soon.

Hotel Challis was a welcome stop in our travels around Sydney. My wife and I stayed for two nights and enjoyed the peace and quite, while having very convenient access to world class dining in every direction - all within walking distance from our room! Overall, a great boutique hotel experience in the middle of a busy city that didn't break our budget.

Planning a trip to Australia, how do you pick a hotel? Read reviews, some people will put down a perfect place for rediculios reasons. This I found with Hotel Challis! Yes the rooms are small, but, your not going to live there for ever. We found the staff very helpful the place had been immaculately restored (3 row houses turned into a hotel. The rooms are air conditioned and well appointed. The facility was spotless . The hotel was tucked away on a nice quiet street in a bustling city within walking distance of the City harbour, Harbour bridge, Botanical gardens and the Opera house. Very convenient and would not hesitate to come back here.

The hotel is very well maintained all public areas spotless. The king balcony room was well appointed comfortable clean bed with nice bedding. Bathroom clean and good powerful shower. Laundry room is a good
