We found this place on lastinute.com it had a comfortable bed, plenty of showers and toilets, and a cute breaky in the morning. Staff were all very helpful. We're planning on going back.

The Australian is full of character and great value for money. The central location in the Rocks is second to none and the rooms are comfortable and quirky. Like most traditional Australian "pubs" the bathrooms are not ensuite but this is more than made up for by the friendly welcome and comfy sitting room area with complimentary sherry, tea and coffee

I arrived to this hotel on Christmas eve after a very long journey and was met with a very rude employee who checked me in and had to be paid up front for for 5 nights stay! The room was less than average, dirty, no ensuite and the breakfast was poor. By accident I left a small sum if cash in by make up bag ( I forgot to take it with me when going out that day) and when I returned that evening it was stolen. I felt completely violated and the couple of people who worked there were indifferent. I contacted the police who later came and the owner of the hotel who looked like a fat scumbag and acted accordingly making out it was such a big deal for him to come in during the holidays!
I asked for a refund for the days left and booked into a four star down the road that was a hundred times better! The whole experience was horrific and I would urge any and everyone please do not stay here. Its such a terrible place. People confuse quaint and period with old, tired and unsafe. Beware you have been warned!!!

A great location in the heart of the city with everything within walking distance, especially the historic Rocks area and Circular Quay. I was amazed at the price for what we got, compared to the 5 star one up the road where I’ve also stayed. Give me interesting and funky every time! The rooms are a decent size and the shared facilities are clean and well kept. One bathroom is totally new, while retaining old-world charm. (I found 5 bathrooms with toilets/ or toilets by my third day there). Music rocks downstairs for a while at night but the floor was thick enough to reduce that a lot. The common rooms are lovely old style Victoriana, complete with a chess set, complimentary sherry, and a bowl full of good quality fruit. It’s a good place to meet people including experienced travellers with lots of travel-tips, free wifi during the day, tea, coffee, juices and cornflakes for brekky, and books and magazines galore. Nice bar and restaurant downstairs, great to hang out in the evenings, a lot of young people. Definitely a cosmopolitan, young and meet-people place to be, for city explorers. This is a hotel where you can ask for what you need. Just a mention of my dairy intolerance produced an alternative for me – on the house – within 5 mins. Others had food delivered to their rooms. The commom room cleaning staff were warm and helpful but not on duty 24/7. Hence if there are lots of guests hanging out together in the evening, they’ll use up all the mugs and sherry glasses, so you may have to wash out a mug if you get up early before the cleaning staff arrive. We all know the answer to that problem is to go pay for the 5-star up the street. The aesthetic charm and the hospitality in this place is legend in my view.

Room Tip: Check out the locations of all the bathrooms and toilets because they fill up fast around breakfast...

A lively pub, helpful staff, clean, comfortable rooms and a wonderful collection of Australian photos and memorabilia give this hotel a friendly atmosphere. A simple breakfast is included, and the common room is a perfect spot to relax in comfort, in the morning sun, or with a glass of wine in the evenings. Shared bathrooms are well-maintained. A great, traditional pub in an excellent location to explore The Rocks area and city attractions. Will be back!

We found this hotel while searching for a restaurant and during our trip stayed there 2 times while passing sydney. The rooms are not ensuite, but lovely and old fashioned furnished. There are plenty of bathrooms though so you will always manage to find an empty one to use. The common room is lovely old style victorian furnished, with chess, complimentary congnac and cherry, and apples. Very good place to meet people, free wifi during the day, small breakfast (tea, coffee, juices and cornflakes provided) books and magazines. Nice bar and restaurant downstairs, great to hang out in the evenings, a lot of young people. Quite noise on weekends (also weekend the price is a little higher), nice staff and we were able to store bags there for a week (until we were flying back from our trip). great location directly on the rocks, at the bridge. Definitely a cosmopolitan, young and meet-people place to be, for city explorers, great pub/food lovers. We ll be back for sure.
Ps roomservice available. Staff brought restaurant food up to the room, or to the common room!

Room Tip: rooms seem quite similar.
