The night didn't start well with a 15 minute wait for water and a 25 minute wait for a wine once seated and the place wasn't busy. Water was over poured on to the table by the server and nit cleaned up. The tables had no placemats or tablecloths and the serviettes were relatively thin paper which didn't look 5 star. The wine list was interesting and the menu looked adequate. Food order was sought without letting us know of any specials, asked about the soup - the waitperson had to go to find out. Oysters were warm and lacked freshness, felafel was a bit dry but OK. Had to go to seek the waitperson in the dining room due to lack of attention to ask to buy more wine as the focus was more on setting up tables for brekfast than serving dinner guests. The wine delivered (a red at $99 was two years younger than stated on the wine list, it was not offered to taste first). The main order was incomplete because the order hadn't been written down and the sides were thus delivered when the mains were 3/4 finished as they had to be perpared after the food was delivered to the table. Spatchcock was really good, lamb rack was OK, and the accompanying jus was very tasty. I had ordered my lamb as rare but the Matre D came back later to say that this wasn't possible as it was sous vide fist and thus needed to be served medium. The roast vegetbales were more of a garnish and luke warm. Only one dessert ordered, an affogato that looked good, coffees were tasty. On the way out saw a poster for a $99 champagne and 10 oysters and I asked about it (as we would have ordered this if we had known there was a special) and was told that it had expired and wasn't available, the poster should have been taken down. When I asked them to check it was still in the "system" and this avaialble "I guess". If it wasn't for the quality of some of the food would have been a rating of 1. I don't believe of the dozens of Marriotts we have stayed and dined at any have been this poor.

Dear Guest,
Thank you for taking the time to review Motion Bar & Grill. I am disappointed to read that your dining experience was far from satisfactory. Please note that your comments are very important and have been communicated with both our restaurant operations and kitchen department. I do hope we have the opportunity to welcome you back in the near future to show you that this is not a standard of our restaurant. Kind regards, Irvin Bala - Restaurant Manager

I looked forward for some time to attending the seafood buffet for our wedding anniversary. We made sure neither of us were driving as we were going to also partake in the wine buffet. When we arrived it took awhile to be shown to our table and when asked if we would like a drink we advised we wanted the wine buffet. We were told they no longer have it, I explained that they still advertised it on their website. The waiter apologised and offered us wine at happy hour prises. The restaurant is next to the bar which is noisy, so it certainly wasn’t a romantic quiet dinner. The food was ok however not allot of variety. And there was no fish at a seafood buffet which was strange. Ample oysters crabs and prawns. They need to offer crab implements as there is allot of wastage by not being able to get the meat out. Overall I was not impressed which was a shame.

Having been spoiled many times by the seafood buffet at the Surfers Paradise Marriott (Citrique Restaurant) which is a five star experience every time, our recent seafood buffet at Marriott Brisbane was not in the same class even though the pricing was about the same. The cold seafood was excellent and five star quality especially the mud crab (sweet and fleshy) and the seafood salad. The hot food was limited and seemed reheated. The “hot” calamari was soggy, but when replenished it was fine. We were there at the beginning of the 5-7pm session so why would soggy calamari be offered? So three stars for the hot food. The dessert bar was average except for a mousse/chocolate cake offering which was excellent. Overall, only just four stars, however the $12 cocktails before 6.30pm was a good point in their favour (try the Banker’s Martini).

Had the gluten free high tea with my Ceoliac mother today. Best Gluten Free High Tea we have had (and we have had a few at the major hotels) you wouldn’t even know it was Gluten Free. The bread for the sandwiches was some of the best gluten free bread I have ever tried. Service was great and the high tea is excellent value for money. We will definitely go back again in the near future so please keep up the great work.
