Excellent re-development of the ocean front, the Cairns esplanade is well worth several strolls along. Well maintained and with lots of variety along its length, it provides grassland, parks, planting, buskers and dramatic views across to the harbour. A popular spot in the evening to stroll and watch the sun go down.

This esplanade is well maintained and is a really good walk. If you go to the end, it is 2.5 kms. You can even walk from the end to the Botanic Gardens for a real treat. They are a few more kilometres on but well worth the stroll. Situated right beside the ocean, they have trees and grassy sections as well as informative illustrated booths to tell the untold story of WW11. This area was bombed many times by the Japanese. I thoroughly recommend this walk and I enjoyed it so much, I walked it twice while I was away.

The Cairns Esplanade has been done up superbly! At the south end, the boardwalk often has big Pelicans posing for photos and feeding, as well as a swathe of other shore birds. You can take some magical photos here, and of the city too. The boardwalk and rest of the esplanade has plenty of amenities, grassy areas for sports and picnics and undercover areas and free BBQ's. The far northern end can get a little busy with midgies in the twilight hours.

Because of dredging in the past of the local river the shoreline in Cairns is not used for swimming so they built a large pool and a walkway abutting the ocean. Just beautiful, you can barbeque anywhere..

Cairns without the boardwalk just wouldn’t be half as good. It’s the perfect place for your early morning run or late afternoon stroll. The pelicans are so cool and they come in really close along with a whole other array of beautiful birds. There’s crabs and fish, every now and then a crocodile and we had a shark this year too. It’s never ever boring, high tide is beautiful but low tide is my favourite. Cairns was made on mud flats so there’s always creatures to wonder at. The lagoon man made pool is spectacular and the fish sculptures must have been photographed a million times or more. There’s free bbq’s, toilets and showers. Plenty of drinking water along the boardwalk. Perhaps buy a takeaway pizza from Villa Romans and a Gelato from Devine Gelato and watch the world go by. There’s often buskers and plenty of cute puppies. It really is one of the most beautiful features of Cairns. And there’s heaps of free activities from beach volleyball, rock climbing to aqua zumba and Pilates. Have a delicious steak along the Boardwalk, or the most amazing seafood on the boat in the Marina with a beer. It’s really just an amazing place.
