“Bargain in Paradise”
Reviewed 1 February 2012

Waking up to dawn over the coral sea, a leisurely breakfast on the verandah before heading off to take in the attractions of tropical north Queensland seems idyllic - and it was. 2 couples and a teenager got a special offer of 5 nights in a 2 bedroom apartment (separate keys) for AUD$1000. The apartment was everything you'd expect, clean, comfortable, nicely furnished with all conveniences including washing machine and dryer. The Mantra Trilogy is right on the Cairns Esplanade so guests are right in the heart of the tourist area. Restaurants of all types and prices are within easy walking distance. Free , secure undercover parking is also provided and the swimming pool was so refreshing. Excellent value. The only downside was no internet access (or provided at $7 a day). When will accommodation providers realise that free wifi or internet access is almost an essential item for today's travelers. A lack of kitchen knives was the only other criticism. Highly recommended and would definitely stay there again.

stayed for a week Jan 2012 in a 3 bed apartment (block 2 floor 9) could not fault it, so spacious with everything you needed. air con was brilliant. arrived very very early and great guy on reception moved us around so we could get in apartment straight away (5.30am) could have kissed him. every time we went to reception for anything ALL the staff were pleasant and very helpful. location is great and would definately come again.

Always curious how Australian hotels get their ratings as most are not even close compared to Hotels in other parts of the world and here is another example... I have stayed in alot of hotels and always give credit where credit is due however this one misses the mark considerably and after reading other positive the reviews I wonder whether it is the same place????

Stayed at the Trilogy for Business recently only because the Shangri-La where I normally stay was booked out. Arrived to a crowded reception area full of noisy children running amok and rude parents (No offence but some of these people have no idea how to act in public) Arrived late morning and was told I could not check in till after 2Pm. I understand rooms need to be cleaned however nothing annoys me more than after a long flight to be told you can’t go to your room.... I mean how long does it take to get rooms ready when check out is 10am??

When I did get to my room which was around 5pm after meetings in the afternoon, the room was dated, carpets worn and room was that cold it was like a fridge. There was also paint missing from the wall, mildew on lamp shades and the outside windows with view to the Ocean (Which I paid extra for) dirty. Bathroom small, bed also very small (and hard) with bad pillows!!

The private balcony was small with barely standing room, and no chairs to sit on. Restaurant was disappointing and barely rates a mention with me. Ordered Brushetta (House specialty) apparently which was on par with something I would buy from Joes Pizza seriously. Also there was no breakfast option before 6am which was annoying as I had to leave for Airport at 5am....

Hotel advertises fully functional gym however this is the standard 2 walking Machines and Fitness Station.... Pool can not comment as I did not go there

All in all, this entire place needs a serious tidy up and review of its rating and I am still confused where the people who rated this hotel so highly actually stayed because it surely was not in the Ocean Rooms? The self contained Apartments may be alot better however the rooms are average at best.

The only thing this place has going for it is the location being close to all shops and restaurants and across the road from the Esplanade. So for that reason alone it may be worth recommending but there are other alternatives

Would not return

Room Tip: Stay in the self contained Apartments or look elsewhere

We spent a week at this hotel in a 2 bedroom which was an apartment with a hotel room next door. Very well equipped apartment, clean and spacious.
Hard bed, but that's a personal thing.
Location is awesome to be close to everything including lagoon and playground.
The insure BBQ is greatnnext to the pool. Would return in a flash.

We stayed for 3 nights including New Years Eve, 4 adults in a 2 bedroom apartment and we absolutely loved it. The apartment was clean and modern and we had views across the ocean and pool. The huge balcony was a bonus as we dined there on several occasions. We booked through FNQ Apartments and the Boutique Collection and were really pleased with our holiday arrangements. Best thing is the location being so close to everything. We found the whole property very clean and tidy with nice gardens.

Room Tip: Ocean views would be nice

We stayed three nights in January 2012. The one bedroom appartment was a little small for two adults and a 12 year old. Kitchenette helps but some cutlery and crockery pieces were missing which is not great. Reasonably neat and clean room but carpet could use an update. Pool was very cloudy and grubby, as a former pool pofessional it appears the circulation is adequate - that or it needs a thorough backwash. Staff extremely friendly.

Room Tip: Avoid rooms near the pool unless you want to be woken early by squeeling kids.

Traveled here witn my wife and three kids and was too late to get a two Bedroom aprtment but we did ger sort of Interconnecting Rooms. Each had there own swipe card. ( Make sure you get enough in case the kids lock theres in their room)

Has a nivce little kitchennette. Teht did forget the trolley Bed for number three child to begin with and did forget to configure the other bed into two singles but there was no strees ther. I am sure if I had followed it up they would have fixed it.

There was no trouble getting Beach towels and they always swapped them with a smile. Pleanty of places to eat right at the bottom of the apartments and Woolworths wasn't too far away either. They can books tours for you as well.

You need to be careful with the Taps in the Bathroom The Faucets sort of point towards you. So if you turned them ont too fats you would get wet. Pool was warm enough but I did prefer the Esplade Lagoon Pool it has a lot more shade. Not much shade in most of the day at teh resort pool.

There is also not a lot of parking spaces downstaits in their carpark. Fine if you don;t hire a car. It is also a bit smelly down there. But henerally you are just passing through the carpark if you want to take a shortcut back to the main office.

We stayed in Tower 2 Rooms 611 & 612 and had fanrtasic views of the Ocean.

Would probbaly stay here again.

Room Tip: Higher Flors are further away from Pool, Corner suites have better views of Ocean. Tower 2 & 3...
