The food, staff and decor at the Port Douglas Life Saving Club was excellent. True value for money. Quality all the way.

We went here for Father's Day lunch. One word...Wonderful!
Staff were friendly.
Food was generous and cheaper than other local restaurants.
We had a table with ocean views! Only restaurant with views of 4 mile beach.
It doesn't have A/C... But the ocean breeze more than compensates!

The Port Douglas Surf Club is on the edge of Four Mile Beach which on the whole is a calm water beach unless the wind's blowing strongly. In such a case, the management lowers blinds around the eating area to protect diners. There is an interesting menu with Asian, Italian and Australian influences which caters for meat eaters and vegetarians alike. You order at the bar, get a number and the staff bring your meal to the table. Prices are very reasonable and servings are quite large. My friend and I both had a roast pumpkin salad which was quite delicious. My husband had fish and chips, but the fish was very overcooked and dry which was a disappointment. It was quite noisy at lunchtime, with quite a lot of children running around, so we decided to return to our apartment with dessert and have it there. We took away a lime tart and two lemon meringue pies, both of which were tasty except for a heavy pastry base. In other years, we've been here for dinner when it's much quieter. For older diners, this may be the way to go.

Happened upon this Club this week. We were very impressed with the quality of the food and the variety. The Cerviche was fantastic and the tuna burger in squid ink buns were equally as good. To be recommended.

Not your usual pub fare. Creative and modern dishes. Good location, friendly staff and reasonable prices. Decor could do with an update. Those rusty old fans look terrible.
