“Not Impressed”
Reviewed 27 March 2012

I've unfortunately made the same mistake as other reviewers:

After shelling out $260 a night "deluxe" King spa room in a 5 star Hotel what we got for the money was terrible. This place is looking very old, tired, and frankly, i don't know how they can still be rated at 5*???? This was for our anniversary and i almost cried at how pitiful it was for the money spent.

NOT GOOD:
-unclean surfaces, food on floor and on balcony.
-bathroom dingy, dark, not 'romantic' at all... no light... awful.
-Staff are not friendly /at all/

RESTAURANT:
-Overpriced buffet!!!! This used to be lovely, now it is terrible! We only paid 50% of the price as we had a deal through an accomodation rewards source. Terrible.Frozen prawns, budget cuts of meat used in the roast so it was unpalatable, food was not topped up as it should be for a budy night. Rude service staff - taking away the prawn refuse bowl and dipping bowl and not returning them... So glad we hadn't paid full price, as even paying 50% we felt ripped off!

Most sad is I've previously stayed there (2009) and was very impressed by everything EXCEPT the staff manner - they've never been particularly 'nice', but once you're checked in typically you can ignore that (and them), it has really gone downhill!

Room Tip: higher floors afford better beach view

My Husband and i both work 6 days a week and our only time/holidays away together consist of one night after we finish work on a Saturday.
I made our reservation on wotif.com, excitement filled us as we drove up the coast for our night away. We splashed out on our $260 a night "deluxe" King spa room in our 5 star Hotel.
We were met with a tired old run down room, the wall paper peeling and the surfaces caked in dust. Our beautiful "romantic" sorner spa in a dark bathroom with no windows or ventilation but it was the mould on the bath when i finally got in just to get my moneys worth that was the icing on the cake.
This Hotel may have once been 5 star but those days are long gone. The two white bathrobes hanging in the musty linen press with the ironing board just did not cut it with feeling luxury.
All i can say is i am so so dissapointed and upsett with our stay, i feel cheated and robbed that we parted with our hard earned cash for such and unpleasant experience that ruined our weekend away for our wedding anniversary.
We were woken at 7.30am by staff knocking on our door repeatedly with "our" breakfast........Wrong room.
The staff were friendly at check in but not at check out and i even got home to find an email from wotif to say we had not arrived for our stay, so after our horrible weekend i had to spend time on the phone at 9.30pm to the Hotel to figure out that the girl at check in had not 'finalised" our stay.
Never ever again.....

The beauty is amazing and the service was second to none. Everything is huge.... The Bath, the room, the bed and me after I had 3 days of the food here. The most amazing thing there is the view. I would highly recommend a stay here.

My wife and I stayed here for two nights over the Victorian Labour Day weekend. We had booked it as a 'Mystery Hotel' and were absolutely delighted with the place and the value for money.

I can understand that the location might not be perfect for everyone as it is half-way between Surfer's Paradise and Broadbeach but it's an easy walk or drive to one or the other along the road or the beach. I preferred the location away from the hustle and bustle.

The rooms are a great size with large, extremely comfortable beds. The view from the balcony was spectacular and a great place to enjoy an early evening drink. We enjoyed use of both swimming pools, the smaller of which we had to ourselves on each occasion.

Unfortunately, we didn't eat at the revolving restaurant but were really impressed with the breakfast and light meal options from the bar. Equally impressive were the staff members that we dealt with from reception, concierge and house-keeping - all very helpful and polite and a credit to the hotel.

Stayed in the Gold Tower for a couple of days for business.

The Room
Lot of space, with a separate toilet. Clean and quiet, the bed was comfortable. Direct view on the Coral Sea from the balcony. No free internet connection, it's actually pretty expensive. Wired and wireless connections are on different price plans.

The Location
Not far from the beach, however not central location. No restaurants within walking distance, but free underground parking spaces.

Pleasantly surprised by:
- the view from the balcony, and the chairs inviting you to sit and enjoy for few minutes
- the back access of the hotel to a less busy street, bringing you closer to the beach

Unimpressed by:
- the unstaffed lobby, forcing you to check-in/check-out at the main tower
- the lack of fast checkout as bill is not slided under your door

Spendt one night here and moved further into Surfers Paradise, as the location is not the best for finding good places to eat. New rail link is being constructed outside the hotel, until it opens there is no bus stop within 100 mts.
Room was clean, bathroom a bit dated, with a quick makeover.
Happy with rate we paid ($133) with secret hotels, would not have liked to pay full rate, as you can get better value in the middle Broadbeach.

Room Tip: If you want to pay double, upgrade to the other tower which has suites

Average rooms, with comfortable beds!! No wireless Internet!!! Great restaurant with top quality food, and fantastic pool.

Location was average, far from Caville Ave and a bit out from Surfers... But still a short stroll to the beach
