Was very happy with hotel/room, front desk staff friendly and helpful, hotel lobby clean and tidy, room spotless, had corner window view fantastic, breakfast great, bar staff did great cocktails, parking a bit of an issue Friday & Saturday nights first in first serve basis, if full then have to use parking station next door but it is locked at night so car safe, Hindley street is a bit noisy, lots of nite clubs and adult entertainment, not sure you would stay here with a young family, but otherwise was a great stay would stay here again....

We have stayed here a couple of times now and think it excellent value for money, especially if you book through some of the websites like wotif and the deal includes late checkout & 2 for 1 breakfast. The location is perfect walking distance if you want to be near the action - shopping, drinking & eating, including Rundle Mall, Casino & Hindley Street. The hotel has always been clean & tidy when we have stayed. We live in the country & this is one of our first choices when heading to the city for a night out.

The HGC is your run of the mill 3 star hotel that caters for business clients during the week and leisure on the weekends.
I stayed in a executive King room so cannot complain about the property, room was very spacious and stylish in it's recent renovation. Room had all that conveniences that you would expect.
Location is great, about 100 meters from Rundle Mall, lots of cafes and restaurants nearby. Ask for a high floor room if staying over the weekend, Hindley Street is party central with lots of bars and clubs, and drunk party goers.

Booked through Wotif and got a ripper deal for two nights. Arrived and parked out front. No probs said reception you are in our loading zone. Checked in and was directed to carpark - easy to find and heaps of room.
Tenth floor; recently renovated all mod cons. King size bed, Sony flat screen, good size and well fitted out bathroom. Room spotlessly clean.
Location terrific. Short stroll to Rundle St mall and a 20 minute walk to Central Market. A couple of very good retaurants nearby.
Reception staff excellent with directions and info on eating out.
Parking a steal at $15/day.
Will recommend whenever and will try to be back.

Room large, clean and comfortable enough, but a bit tired.

Didn't use the bar or restaurants because there are so many places to eat or take-out food locally.

You'll either love or hate the location, as the reviews here prove. It's probably a bit much to call it a "red light district" - more of an entertainment area geared towards adults ;-) The more family-friendly part of the city centre is only a 5-10 minute walk up the road, so if it's not your bag, it's not as if you're stranded. Personally I thought it was a bit tame by normal big city standards and preferred its lively and colourfull character more than the main Rundle Street shopping area uo the road, which was a bit of a disappointment.

Overall, this hotel worked for me and I'd consider using it again. It was reasonable value too. I would probably have marked it 4 instead of 3 if it were not for the internet costing up to $27/day, which is just extorsion. Come on guys, it's 2011 and the world's hurtling towards free WiFi. I came here from the Radisson in Melbourne and they manage to provide it.
