“Disappointing”
2 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 15 April 2012

This hotel (discovered it is in fact a motel) was booked by our travel agent for us and we therefore had little idea of what to expect..........but despite it's good central location and being in an old Heritage building, little else positive can really be said. The rooms were clean but quite dated and shabby. Lots of dark brown gloss paint everywhere! Our wardrobe had lost its door at some point and never been replaced. We had a pane of glass sitting on the floor under the window and not sure why. The TV reception in the room was poor. The radio never worked. We were kept awake most of the night by noise from within the building and also from the pub across the alley. There is no dining facilities, but there is a good cafe on the corner for breakfasts. The reception desk is only manned part of the day and at other times you go across the road to another property with any problems or to check out. Unfortunately our toilet flush failed on the second day and the following morning I spoke with the reception to report it, but later in the day the receptonist was still unable to resolve the problem as no plumber was available being Easter and as the establishment was fully booked there was no other room with a functioning loo that we could use. We were given a bucket from housekeeping to fill with water from the shower and throw down the tiolet as a flush. I really did not feel this was acceptable but had limited options as it was Easter Sunday. I feel this establishment is really more suitable for backpackers or those on a very restricted budget and only need a bed for the night. Adelaide was lovely and I am aware now of several very good hotels to chose from on our next stay...............I will not return to the Paringa.

Room Tip: Unsure if there are any!

Dear Guest
Thank you for taking the time to make some comments on our hotel, however I think it fair for the hotel to have the opportunity to respond to some misleading comments, and provide another side to your version of events.
We are AAA rated 3.5 star motel, with this most recent AAA rating review only a few months ago. We provide value for money, and do not at any stage pretend to provide more than that rating. Our competitive rates reflect this (as did your rate). I apologise for the clock radio not working, and the TV reception, however had you made us aware of this we would have promptly fixed.
With regards to reception only being opened "part of the day", as it was explained to you prior to your visit and upon check-in that because the hotel was quiet and also to enable our hard working staff to have time with their families over Easter, we made the decision to close reception on Easter Saturday and Sunday. 24-hour reception was made available to you from our sister hotel Miller Apartments, directly across the road from Adelaide Paringa.
I also apologise for the problems with your toilet, an unfortunate occurrence which is sometimes out of our control. The hotel was not full, and you were offered to move to another room, however you declined as you did not wish to move floors.
Thank you again and safe travels.
Regards
John

Dont believe it when they say they have cable channels only one didn't have a raging snow storm to the point you can't watch them. Then there's the view they think they can disguise the fact your over looking a service duct or lane way by putting up an sticker over the window. Then there's the water supply scalding or freezing yes they have hot and cold water but not together. There are a few other places a bit further away from things do yourself and your health a favour stay at those places.

Dear Guest
Thank you for taking the time to vent your frustrations with not being able to view TV1 on Foxtel. Like many hotels we choose from a package of Foxtel channels and TV1 is not included in these. We have 8 other Foxtel channels, plus all the free to air channels including digital channels.
As you are one of our regular guests that has stayed at the hotel for such a long time it is a shame that you have now chosen to leave us because of this and take to Trip Advisor to vent this frustration.
You have never mentioned issues with hot or cold water in your time with us, and hopefully we may have the opporutnity to welcome you back to the hotel in the future.
Regards
John

Good location. Walking distance to central markets and cool east end area. Bit dodgy at night with a mix of people. So be a little careful. Our room was clean. Some extra soap and a shower cap would be handy. Would stay again if just needing a bed. Did smell a little late at night of sewerage but not a major issue. Staff very friendly. No issues with car park. Easy to find. We have a biggish car so could be a little tight parking but just be patient.

We stayed at the Paringa during the "Clipsal 500" weekend so as with all accomodation the price was inflated. The location of the Paringa is great very central. We stayed in the "Deluxe Spa room" that discription is probably a bit of a stretch. The room on the 5th floor was big and clean but very basic. we didnt have any problems with noise (as long as you close the window) as I've read on other reviews for this place.Although on a couple of nights when coming home we had a terrible smell of sewerage in the hall out side our room, bad enough for us to put a towel across the door, the smell was gone by the morning. The foyer is very nice and the staff were very friendly.

Room Tip: I'm not sure if all rooms are double glazed now, if not you need it because it is a noisey area...

Dear Guest
Thank you for taking the time to share your experience on Trip Advisor and also for choosing to stay at Adelaide Paringa.
It is pleasing that you enjoyed the size and also the cleanliness of our rooms, appreciated the friendliness of our staff and took advantage of the spacious guest lounge in the lobby of the hotel.
I must admit to being surprised at the smell you experienced one night, and it is the first I have heard of this, but I am investigating. At least this smell was gone in the morning, however I will still do my best to find out why this may have been the case.
Thanks also for your room tip on the street noise. we have actually soundproofed the first two floors, and working on future floors, however good to read that you were not disrupted by street noise during your stay, even during the busiest time of the year for Adelaide!
We look forward to welcoming you back for Clipsal next year, but hopefully before!
Regards
John

Stayed overnight. Booked in for convenience. The room smelt of smoke, the towels and sheet were not clean. Towels threadbare. Last room late at night I was stuck. The staff was nice, but, nice doesn't give you a good sleep in a clean room. Book elsewhere.

Dear Guest
Thank you for taking the time to write a review and share your opinion on Adelaide Paringa. Our sincere apologies for what appears to be a disappointing stay with us.
Our team does recall your stay, and our receptionist tended to your room immediately when you complained of cigarette smoke, and although our receptionist could not smell any smoke in the room, your allergy to the smoke must heighten your sensivity. We have a very strict non-smoking policy in the hotel, which is actively enforced, however it appears a previous guest flouted this policy.
I am surprised that you mention that your sheets and towels were dirty, as you made no mention of this to us throughout your stay, and we take great pride in the cleanliness of both our rooms and linen. I have however directly followed up with our excellent Housekeeping Team. Thank you again however for your comments, and safe travels.
Regards
John

Stayed at the Paringa Motel during a busy period in Adelaide. Having read the reviews here we went for a 'deluxe' room and, for $120, thought it was a very good budget option.

Sure, the Paringa isn't brand new, but it's not pretending to be. It is perfectly located and the rooms, whilst being 'motel style', are perfectly acceptable for this price range.

The bed was firm, but not saggy. Pillows were firm, but not hard. The bathroom was functional and other furnishings comfortable and more than adequate. The iron was in good nick for crispening up a shirt in the morning. The television was great and the staff at reception were friendly and efficient.

I had a room facing Hindley St. Yes, I could hear King William St fairly clearly but, having read the reviews, was well prepared with ear plugs and slept very well.

I would certainly stay here again if I wanted to save a little money or some of my regular places to stay were full. If this is your price range, take a deluxe room and your earplugs and you'll be fine.

You couldn't get much closer to the heart of Adelaide if you stay at the Paringa. Only a matter of metres from the Rundle Mall and surrounded by many eating and drinking establishments, the Paringa is ideal for those who want to sample the delights of the CBD(and Hindley St). Building is old but rooms are comfortable and had no trouble sleeping....was not bothered by street noise at all. Staff were extremely helpful and very friendly. Cafe Boulevard downstairs the ideal place for brekky and The Little Pub Off Hindley Street a matter of metres from reception. And only 10 mins walk from the Adelaide Oval(take note cricket fans!). If you're looking for a good basic place to stay and priced accordingly(and so well positioned)the Paringa is for you.
