I made the booking online for 2 rooms, hopefully close to each other but when we arrived, we were told our rooms were 3 floors apart and the reception staff basically told us that's what we're getting and there's nothing they could (or would) do about it.
The rooms were ok without being overly big...our king sized bed was comfortable and the shower was hot...but you have to be careful not to flood the bathroom floor as there's no lip to the shower recess.
Breakfast was included in the price but it was the basic continental....at least it kept us going for a few hours.
The gym was well appointed but wasn't designed for too many people in there at once...not a criticism, just an observation.
The reception staff were efficient but they need to smile a bit so you feel welcome in the hotel.
This hotel is centrally located in the CBD so it ticks a lot of boxes....it was a leisurely walk to both the MCG and Etihad stadium. Lots of arcades, eateries and shops within a minute of the front door so there's lots to see and do. I'd stay here again if i wanted to be in the CBD.

Stayed for a couple of nights, bit of a strange entrance to find , but good room, clean, tidy, not overly big but perfect for what we needed. Friendly staff, good location as well, close to everything. No problem staying there again.

this hotel was very well appointed right in the heart of it all. within walking distance of all the city attractions and transport.
the staff were friendly and helpful. the room was large (we got the delux spa room) and clean. the bed was the comfiest ive slept in for a long time.
the breakfast was the only downside. it was tasty enough but lacking in imagination. that said, i am particularly fussy about dining and we ate well nonetheless.

From the initial, less than professional, check-in, through to the sub-standard breakfasts, rooms, air conditioning temperature controls, and shower water pressure, our stay was less than ideal. The last straw were the staff's break rooms, located on each level near the lifts, where the staff loudly expressed their views on the guests (who they thought were a bunch of thieving, moaning good-for-nothings), complained to no end about the management, and voiced their opinions on any other non-PC topics of the day, all within earshot of the lifts and most of the guest rooms. We were at the very other end of the hall, and heard it all. Such a shame to have had a bad experience, as tho location is truly fantastic.

Room Tip: Far end of the hall, away from the lifts

Causeway-Melbourne, General Manager at Causeway 353 Hotel, responded to this reviewResponded 6 May 2012

Good morning Nikola,

Thank you for your review of Causeway 353 during your recent stay in Melbourne. I am very disappointed to hear about the comments expressed by staff. Our staff have only one break room on level 3. Can you please let me know what floor you stayed on and if possible the dates you heard these comments so I am able to speak with the appropriate department/s.
I will also be able to follow up on your concerns regarding rooms, airconditioning and water pressure.

Best Regards
Paul Koenig

good: comfortable bed, quiet, good position
bad: bad air condition system, you can't adjust temperature , so air is not fresh ,can't have fresh air and smell not good ,smell gets into your suitcase, and I took allergy tablets every night.
continental breakfast is simple and after 4 days is boring,so ordered from kitchen.internet is expensive.
not worth the price.
but if you want a quiet room in good position ,it is the best choice.

We stayed here for three nights, it wasn't luxury but it was modern and clean. The breakfast was great, quick and easy when we had limited time. We also followed the Broadsheet iphone app for all the little hidden eateries we visited for lunch and dinner. Great shopping at the GPO building and the laneways which are all super close. This hotel is so close to the action!

Stayed for the weekend and it was good. The location is spot on, its only a few steps away from Bourke street shopping area, very central. The room we stayed in was also good, very comfortable and clean. It was also quiet. Breakfast (continental) was very basic, but it suited us fine as it made more room for much more delicious food though out the day. The staff were friendly when approached.

One front desk staff recommended Petaling Street on Swanston Street when we asked for a place to grab a bite late at night, and my gosh! if you like Malaysian food, this is the place to go, it was great, so cheap and it was delicious.
