Paramount Serviced Apartments
Ranked #140 of 161 Hotels in Melbourne
Reviewed 12 November 2011

The Paramount was recommended to us by a friend, and every thing she said was true.
Pro's.. Great location, good value, has kitchen and laundry facility's.
Cons.. furnishing's, while adequate were a little sparse.
Other.. The hallways have lots of spicy cooking smells from the apartments, we did not find this offensive, some might.
We would/will stay there again.

Room Tip: Our room was on the 4th floor and over looked Bourke St, which is great for people watching, but as...

Stayed at the Paramount for 4 nights for a family escape in Melbourne. Most aspects of the accommodation were as expected - spacious self-contained apartment with all necessary items, only let down by substandard bathroom cleanliness and haphazzard access to TV channels.
We took our own tennis raquets and balls and enjoyed 2 one hour sessions on the 9th floor court, with only one ball finding it's way over the fence.......
The pool was fine and we had it to ourselves the couple of times we went there, but there was no furniture at all - no-where to sit, no tables - maybe due to gearing up for refurbishment.
Check-in desk was helpful and courteous, and an issue with a locking door in our room was sorted within 30 mins.
Location is great and we left the car parked under the apartments for the whole time and walked or trammed everywhere (at a cost of $17 per day I think). There is a great array of restaurants in the surrounding block and makes you spoiled for choice with china town being only metres away. We ate at Shark Fin Inn (Chinese), Yamoto (japanese), Grossi Florentino (italian) Spaghetti Tree (Italian) close by, and Blue Train and Max Brenners a little further afield and would recommend them all.
The Melbourne Museum was about 20 mins walk, and the aquarium can be accessed by walking down to Flinders St. then getting the free city circle tram. there are numerous live theatres and entertainment venues in the precinct also.
All in all a good family base in the CBD, practical and well equipped.

We've returned here many times - that should say something - usually for a couple of weeks. The large complex has rental apartments as well as permanent residents, plus a multi-level food/retail/office court with underground parking. It's across from Rydges and a taxi stand. Small indoor pool and rooftop tennis court. It's not a new building and is showing some age, so renovations/upgrades are now underway. The parliament is a long block away (past Pellegrinis), with easy walking access to Collins Street's upscale shopping, trams, trains, theatres, museums, etc. The Crown entertainment complex is a short stroll away, as are Vic Market and the sports complexes. The Paramount is essentially in China Town, so dozens of restaurants in all price ranges. Woolie's supermarket a bit over 2 blocks away, as is David Jones. The small staff is friendly and responsive to requests. There is a well-managed conference venue attached, as well. Apartments are roomy and furnished minimally, but adequately if you're not expecting too much. Kitchens include oven, dishwasher, toaster, micro, etc., and a decent assortment of dishes and utensils. Bring your own roasting pan and condiments, and a decent knives if you're a serious foodie. Instant coffee and tea are provided. Laundry closet in bathroom; bring detergent. WiFi for a fee. We always enjoy our stays here with the combination of adequate accommodations, a very nice staff, and a great location. Be forewarned: we travel on business and are not looking for a spiffy upscale experience, so our "very good" rather than "average" (no 3.5 possible) is because for us The Paramount is a near perfect base in Melbourne and feels like our home away from home. If you try it, we'd wish the same for you.

Room Tip: Higher floors are better because of view and less street noise.

We stayed 3 nights here last October, as part of our older son's campus tour of RMIT, in nearby Swanston St. We chose it for its central location & proximity to take-away Asian food outlets in Chinatown. Other plus factors were in-unit washer & dryer & plenty of elbow room for the 4 of us, in a 2-bedroom 2-bathroom room. The living & dining areas were spacious & the kitchen was adequate for our needs.

As mentioned by others, this property is showing its age & maintenance had to unlock a defective bedroom door on Day 1. The secured carpark in an adjacent building was good but you need to be a sleuth to work out the complicated access doors !

We have stayed at the Paramount Apartments for a number of years now under a variety of circumstances and it always works so us and we are fussy.
This visit didnt disappoint either. Great apartment with a lovely balcony overlooking Bourke Street. Clean, comfortable with room to move. This is a great place to stay if you want to walk to all the sites and park the car at no charge. We will be back.

I wish I had read Trip Advisor before I booked these apartments!!! Good location was the only positive thing we could say about these apartments! The 2 bedroom apartment was dirty when we checked in- hairs stuck to the walls in the Bathroom put me off! There were cockroaches in the bedrooms climbing up the walls when we turned on the lights which totally grossed us all out. The shower head was the worst angle for the in bath shower, so every time anyone showered, water went everywhere! After 2 days of our family of 4 showering in it, there was a large wet patch forming on the floor on the other side of the wall, going into the kitchen. We were meant to have the rooms serviced after 3 days but noone came near us until I called and and asked for toilet paper and clean towels- which took 2 phone calls to actually get to our apartment. Several of the power points did'nt work and the window in the second bedroom did'nt seal properly so was very noisy and draughty to sleep in for the kids. do your selves a favour and dont waste your money by staying there- we won't be!!!

Have stayed here several times now. It is in a great location, near tram stop, take away stores, restaurants, convenience stores and near theatres. Nice 5 minute downhill walk to Bourke St Mall. Everything is close by and taxi rank opposite. Rooms are basic but have everything you want including a washing machine/dryer and usually can get a good rate on wotif/lastminute. It is not a 5 star apartment so dont expect 5 star rooms or staff. We had a problem with the washing machine which flooded (not our fault) and it was easier for us to clean it up than inconvenience the receptionist although the service guy who came with more towels to clean up was pleasant. This same reception guy checked us in and did his job but didnt make you feel welcome. Maybe a smile or pleasant "hello" would go a long way to improve the service. You have to go up in one lift to floor 2 and then change to another lift to go to higher floors but its really not a problem. Rooms have dining table, microwave, oven and if you get a good price this place is good value. There are much better apartments around in melbourne but usually higher priced. Would stay again depending on the deal we got but can recommend it and close to Parliament train station and waslking distance to MCG.
