Had a weekend to myself (from Perth) and decided to treat myself to what I thought would be a first-class experience! What a disappointment ! This place has tickets on itself. Stuffed-shirt staff, shabby room, exorbitant room tariff(650 per night for a 2x2). The marketing hype ONLY matched the up-market toffs walking in the door EXPECTING "the idea" of boutique but in reality - very ordinary. Best part? The manners of the maintenance man who came to fix the leaky kitchen tap. And the breakfast for $24. Oh, and the location - shopping, restaurants, river walks and the weather that weekend! The Melbourne weather was perfect.

Dear Ericae,
Thank you for sharing your thoughts on TripAdvisor.
On the positive side, it was pleasing to read that you liked the location and all that
South Yarra has to offer with it's shopping, restaurants and the river all made more
enjoyable by some perfect Melbourne weather. March April is such a lovely time to be in Melbourne. I was glad to see that you liked our breakfast and the good value it represents as well as the good manners of our maintenance man.
On the not so positive side, I am sincerely sorry that you were disappointed.
We don't have tickets on ourselves nor do our "Stuffed-shirt staff". We are, in fact, very humble in our approach to providing professional service in the hope that our lovely "(non) toff" guests have truly enjoyable experiences.
With kind regards,
Rowina Thomas

To celebrate a milestone occasion, we decided on this hotel to be our preferred location. We informed the hotel of what we needed and it required close coordination with a high level of detail to meet the expectations of the guests who were travelling from oversea's and interstate. The entire team, from reservations to concierge delivered on what we were looking for and made this occasion truly memorable, and the process of coordinating people very efficient.

The minute you step out to see a lovingly restored building instantly fills you with confidence that the right choice has been made. There a connection to the discrete opulence and charm reserved for guests looking for something better than a quick in and out stay. The hotel is beautifully appointed with exceptional rooms. The finishes were appealing, from comfortable beds and sleeping arrangements to spacious bathroom area's. The pleasantry's of a balcony also not lost on creating a feel unlike other hotels....many a wine enjoyed while taking in the scenery at dusk. This property has all the charisma, and is something where after a long day you feel pleased to come home to.

The professionalism of staff and ease at which they worked with us gave a high degree of trust and familiarisation for our guests who had not been to Melbourne. Their knowledge and experience was faultless.

The location of the property can not be understated. While in an affluent area of Melbourne, and within close walking proximity of some excellent bars, cafe's, and shopping precincts yet only 10 minutes by train to the CBD, or sporting precincts. Only a short distance to the Yarra which is ideal for cycling or walking too.

In all, a property and experience that will offer the ultimate surprise when you arrive....so much so, you may never want to leave.

I'd like to thank you for choosing to celebrate your milestone occasion at The Lyall
and am delighted that your expectations were met by the staff and that our
South Yarra location proved to be the right choice. So much detail goes into the

and tastes are fulfilled. Thank you for complimenting the hotel's rooms, finishes and
charisma. Once again, thank you for your positive feedback, it really is appreciated
and we are so pleased that we were able to make your special occasion truly memorable.

After weeks of travelling the Lyall was perfect. The Suite had washing machine and everything u need to revamp. Bedroom comfortable and quiet. Great bath and the best shower. Spa provided an excellent massage. All staff extremely nice and helpful. Very easy and relaxed feel to the hotel but also smart. Just off Tookak road which has great shops, restaurants, cinema. Can walk into centre through Botanic gardens. We couldn't recommend it more highly.

Room tip: We were on ground floor and in a suite which suited us.

Located just off Toorak Road - easy public transport to the city and a short cab ride
Rooms are nice with plenty of room - getting a bit tired particularly the bathroom which was in need of some work - Not really dirty - more attention to detail cleaning is what is required with a focus on grout, tiles, vents etc.
David and the young American lad great other staff could learn from the engaging (but respectful) service style they delivered.

Champagne bar is nothing special - anything smaller than a full bottle comes from opening a piccolo bottle. The choices are nothing special. Yes, the front desk and bar are cosy and intimate, and oh so friendly.

While I loved the attention, it seemed a little contrived and I was happier to stay inside my room and enjoy the space and amenities inside my room. It will be my first consideration for any other stays I need to look for in Melbourne in the future.

Dear Sean,
Thank you for your review on TripAdvisor.
it was pleasing to read that you like our location and agree that it is
a great selling point for the hotel with its address in a quiet tree lined
street, just steps from Toorak Road, Chapel Street and many major
attractions.
Your comment on the Champagne Bar confused me a little. We do have
quite a selection of French Champagnes and Sparkling wines as well as
a full bar menu including cocktails. In champagne, we carry full bottles, half bottles
and piccolos which are our generous offer for "a glass" of champagne.
By serving a piccolo you actually receive nearly 2 flutes for the price of one.
Did you see the mini ice buckets that they are served in? We call it
a "party for one" !!
Thank you for commenting on the front desk and bar being cosy and intimate,
this is one of our points of difference and I am so sorry that you found
the attention you received a little contrived. We do take care to offer
genuine service by nice, friendly people.
We do hope to welcome you back on a future visit to Melbourne.
With kind regards,
Rowina Thomas
