Description: Bistrot d'Orsay has been situated in picturesque Collins Street for 20 years, in an area regarded as the ‘Paris End’. The interior is instantly evocative of the French capital with trompe l’oeil ceiling and a towering vintage French poster adorning the dining room. Dark wood paneling and soft lighting completes the picture. Lunch and dinner menus are provençal Mediterranean with French bistro classics such as bouillabaisse and crème brûlée all prepared with flair. Dishes such as seafood linguini and risotto complement the Mediterranean style. With a spectacular view of the ornate Regent Theatre directly opposite, Bistrot d’Orsay can lay claim to one of the best views of any restaurant in Melbourne. The bistro has a multi-award winning, extensive wine list with expertly chosen selections from the best international and Australian/NZ regions.

I have been here with my girlfriend And the atmosphere of the restaurAnt was simply beautiful.we had an abat-jour on our table!!super romantic!!!the food was really Good Especialy the duck s leg(main course)And the tortino di cioccolato as a dessert.

When you produce such great meals why oh why would you seat guests at such miniscule tables. The staff were friendly, service good and food excellent but every time a drink or food was bought to the table there was a juggle to rearrange everything to fit new item on the table.

We booked a table for a couple on a Thursday night .very cosy very welcoming Scott helped us through the wine list and the meals .the food was delicious and the matching wine selection was amazing .the staff were very professional and attentive .excellent overall . I frequent restaurants and cafes several times a week for breakfast lunch or dinner .i highly recommend this place .a must visit when in Melbourne .

Bistro D'Orsay was reccomendered to us by the Conceirge at the Melbourne Westin Hotel and I am unsure why we have missed it for 19 years.On arrival it had the ambience of a typical Parisian Bistro and we were welcomed with 2 glasses of complementary champagne.Our waitress was from Lyon and had the French charm and love of good food and wine found in that delightful city.
The table was set in true Bistro style with white napkins,crusty bread and butter.
Although tightly packed as in Paris they gave an air of intimacy.The menu was typically French with a choice of 10 entrees and about 12 main course dishes The wine list included many Australian,French,Italian and German wines all of which were fairly priced. My wife and I both chose the Goat's Cheese Soufflé with beetroot and orange compote served with a frisée and walnut salad.- Tres Bon!!!! For Mains,the decision was for the Carnard Parmentier and the classic Beef Bourguignon - slow braised beef cheek with potato mousseline.Both were as good as we have had in many French Bistros.Then 3 well ripened French cheeses with crispy bread which did not allow us to continue to the desserts which looked superb.Next visit for that experience!!!!
How sad that we had missed this excellent Bistro for 19 years as it is has ambience,reasonably priced food,wine and gracios service.

Very pleasant staff, prompt service and lovely decor. We were offered an extensive wine list and old french style Bistrot Menu. The Pate was excellent, served with bread. The Gnocchi main was delicious and filling, the hazelnuts add a nice touch. The Duck Ragout, at a hefty $36, was a pretty small plate, even with the potato topping it only came half way up a low ramekin. The cream Brulee was classic - No one trying to re invent the wheel here. Not entirely sure we got all our wine. The waitress was very quick with the removal of glasses.
