Located by the Yarra river under Hamer Hall, this place is a gem.

Delicate flavours, exquisite presentation, discreet mood in the room.
The oyster starter was art on the palate, sashimi - delicate, tempura - crisp & light.......
Finished off with chocolate 'nemesis', art on the plate......with short coffee & glass of All Saints muscat (which I consider to be the best in the world)
Wait staff are 'pros'.......not uni kids doing a shift or two between lectures.....and it shows.

Well done Sake.
The whole experience is pitched beautifully, and perfect either before or after a show at the Arts Centre.

A great place for a great meal during Autumn, lights on the river, people strolling by and a very good menu and drinks list to choose from. A great ambience and a delight for fine Japanese cuisine.

The waitress was attentive and took time to explain the dishes. The tempuras were good and so were the desserts.

Great service and food was amazing ! We thought we would stop by for a pre show dinner and i am so glad we did!
The food came quickly knowing we only had a short time to eat. I highly recommend the duck and ginger chicken ! Barramundi was also cooked to perfection.

Arrived at Sake at 5 past 12 for a 12MD booking, to find the restaurant still not open and the staff still having their pre-service meeting. They weren't particularly pleased when we made our way in, and asked us to wait outside. Not a good look guys! When they did come to get us they were apologetic and we were escorted promptly to whichever table took our fancy. The service was attentive from then on and all service staff who attended to us were very knowledgeable and were able to offer us some good ideas about the menu. Our drinks waitress definitely needs to have some serious training though - every single glass of wine she poured, she slopped everywhere - not just little splashes, but enough to need to get a cloth to wipe up the spillage!!
If the service had been better I would have rated this restaurant 5 stars, as the food was sublime - equal to anything we ate in Japan. As we were there for lunch we didn't want to eat a huge meal and so opted for the smallest of the set menus. A perfect choice - more than enough food for all of us and absolutely delicious!!
I will possibly give this restaurant another visit but if the service is similar to this visit, that would be it. One positive - they were more than happy to split the bill even though we hadn't asked to do so.
