Visited this museum without really knowing what to expect. We spent nearly an hour looking at the displays and videos, which are set up to tell the stories of Italian migrants. It also has a corresponding (written) history of what was happening in Australia and the world at that time. It is very well set out, plenty of room and lots of items on display...my husband was very taken with the "AFL Italian Team of the Year" guernsey.
On the whole it was a great, fun way to spend an hour.

Since the 1850's Italians have contributed greatly not only to Melbourne's culture but to Australian life in general and the exhibits in this museum have been well devised and presented.
I do not have an Italian background however found the museum extremely interesting and informative. Entry is free and there is also a library, a photographic collection, diplomatic documents, records of some families, organizations and businesses in addition to audio histories.

The Italians have added much to Australian life. This small museum tells many stories. Many Italians came from out of the way places which had, in technological terms, barely entered the 20th century but they soon adapted to life in Australia. Sport, especially AFL, is a great leveler in Melbourne, and the museum celebrates many champion footballers of Italian origin. This is an interesting museum that will entertain visitors for an hour or so, and you need not be of Italian origin to appreciate it.

This is an impressive museum that covers an important part of Australia's history - Italian immigration. It is quite small but it is full of interesting facts, memorabilia and other items. We spent at least an hour there. I was particularly impressed with the Chronological Wall which tells of Italian immigration since 1770 to the current time, all linked to Australian, Italian and world politics at the time.
It is easy to find, just off Lygon St ... and you can't miss the street art wall!

Came here on a grade 6 school excursion and found it very interesting and extremely educational.
All my grandparents, father and many other family members migrated here from Italy....This was an absolute eye opener and I found it very emotional to be there. Especially loved the black & white video footage of people arriving in Australia off the ship! I Must go back with the family as it was hard to concentrate while looking after a group of school children. What a great place to visit in Melbourne!!
