Very nice Chinese cuisine and good presentation. Would have loved the service to be a bit faster as we waited quite a while before we got someone's attention to order our food.

This Chinese Restaurant is very brightly lite
Not sure if thats good or bad easy to see the menu though
The staff were very nice but i think mostly speak Chinese I asked a question and it took two to answer but very friendly.
Mist if the waiters are dress in a professional burgundy and gold uniforms while head waiters are in Black Suits
The food was very tasty and there fried rice is almost as good as mine LOL
A little more care could be taken when trimming there meat as i got some gristle in mineral

When I visit Melbourne, I usually stop by Gold Leaf for a Yum Cha lunch with family. For the value you are paying, the quality of the food and service is average. I understand the location of the restaurant is in a premium spot and this reflects in the pricing compared to other Yum Cha restaurants however this would be acceptable if the food and service was of high quality. The major downfall of Gold Leaf is inconsistency - there are times where my experience is amazing and times it is disappointing. I would also recommend you keep an eye out on your sheet to ensure the staff are ticking the correct category for your meal. This can be very tricky for non-Chinese and first-time goers and the result can be surprising at the end of your meal. Overall, Gold Leaf still delivers the Yum Cha experience but not as great as other places.

As Sydney-based Yum Cha fiends, after being told by a local that Melbourne doesn't "really do Yum Cha", we set out on a mission to find just that. After reading the reviews mentioning rude staff and quality food we decided this must be the real deal.

Can confirm; Gold Leaf is the real deal.

We arrived just after 11 and were lucky to get a table (party of two), so would suggest booking for larger numbers. Service is slighly more indifferent than normal, hower food is of very high quality. The trolleys operate on a very strict route and depending on your position in the restaurant, you may have to be more assertive to attract their attention. Agree that the menu is a little pricey, $70 for 2, however we really stuffed ourselves and at the end of the day we're paying the rent for their location too. However, I stress we did not order food with high mark ups e.g. Duck Panckakes, BBQ anything.

P.s. To the table next to us: plain steamed rice, champagne and grilled octopus does not a Yum Cha make. You're taking up valuable seating which would be otherwise awarded to dumpling enthusiasts.
