Rooms were compact, but comfortable. Very noisy as in a busy location and we were on the first floor. Portable A/C was as good as useless! Nice Sushi place just next door and extremely good Malaysian Restaurant in the Hotel. Friendly staff, good location.

Room Tip: Ask for a higher level, no lift to 1st floor

This place is just a stone´s throw from the Sky tower, Auckland´s most famous landmark (there´s even a Casino in there if you´re feeling lucky!). The city center´s main street and all the spots recommended by Lonely Planet in a their self-guided walking tours are just steps away, really. There are plenty of food stores nearby, liquor stores, mini markets and so on. In the main street which name I can´t recall there are all sorts of shops and restaurants. Absolutely in the heart of evth yet away from the noise. We got a room facing a car park, to the back I guess, and not facing Hobston street. The silence was precious and I managed to recover all the lost sleep from spending several nights in camp sites throughout the country. There were too wide and soft double beds, an LCD TV, hair drier, 2 heaters and a mini kitchen (self-contained), plus 30-minute-free internet per day, not too bad I must say. The only draw back, and that is a pity, is that by staying for 3 nights we noticed the cleaning service was NOT up to our expectations. Beds were barely made and dishes just superficially done too... In fact, the dishes and cuttlery available were dirty and they did not vacuum clean the room for the 3 nights... Apart from that, the place would have been excellent from a value for money standpoint.

Room Tip: Ask for room facing the back or the car park of the complex, they are silent.

I stayed at the hotel in the end of Nov 2011 for 2 nights. We were 2 persons and had very late arrival at 3 in the morning.

Pros:
- Location is brilliant - steps to everywhere: Queen Street is in 1 min walk, 3 mins to SkyCity, 15 min walk to the port and Viaduct.
- If you arrive at Auckland airport after midnight, you can take Airbus Express for 16 NZD/person. The stop is in 5 min walk to the hotel, the cheapest way to get there!!
- The fare was 65 NZD/night. Very good for CBD!
- En-suite room.
- 24 hr reception service.
- TV in the room.

Cons:
- The room was tiny, but is was absolutely okay for that fare!!

Stayed for one night. Like the central location right down the street from Sky Tower. Very friendly check-in. Decent sized room, very clean. Stand alone air-con is very noisy and not terribly efficient, so the room was rather hot. Hallways are tiled, so any other guest outside your room is very loud - bring some earplugs ! Overall a good choice for one night, but not necessarily more than that.

I stayed here for a second time during the Rugby World Cup in September. I was glad to find that it was still a good standard. The room had everything you could want, including a little kitchenette with utensils for cooking. Microwave, in-room safe, an air-conditioner and iron and board were all included. The bed was very comfy and the room was a good size. Everything was very clean.
My 2nd stay here certainly won’t be my last. Auckland City Hotel is a great option for Central Auckland. Highly recommended.

This hotel has great central location, close to many restaurants, attractions and the shops on Queen St. It was very good value for what was on offer. Not luxurious, but very clean, serviced every day and very quiet room, although located on a busy street.
