Of the worst stay of our eight week trip of Australia and New Zealand The Quest Ponsonby Auckland. The tiny room we could cope with. The shutters over half of the windows, we walked in the beautiful park opposite the motel. The welcome from the trainee receptionist, on her own, was smiley but sadly she hadn't the faintest clue about where to direct us to see the most of the city or get a meal. The internet, the only place we had to pay NZ$10 for the worst service ever. Towels so small and thin they were useless and as reception closed at 4pm on a Sunday there was no way to change them. However the assistant manager really made sure he put the Quest at the top of the leaderboard by denying any problems with the internet, (despite admitting others had complained) and saying they couldn't supply a city map we would have to get one from a tourist i centre which we had to find ourselves. We were due to return to the Quest Ponsonby on the 1st March, needless to say we didn't return despite the assistant manager refusing to cancel our booking. It was worth forfeiting the money to ensure our trip ended on a high and not the low it would have at the Ponsonby Quest. If you are travelling to explore Auckland this is not the place you need to be. Pay a bit more and stay somewhere that welcomes tourists.

It is in a good location but if you are an International traveller, you will struggle with their internet. Its $10 for 1g to be used in 24 hours but it is ridiculously slow and counter productive. What a waste of money! Bed sheets curtains had stains and rooms are very dark. Staff were very friendly but only available until 7pm.

i stayed here in December. this place is completely run down. upon check out they tried to claim $500 in damages that were already in the room. months later i am still dealing with the credit card company. this place is disgusting. there was black mold in the bathroom, and tiles falling off the shower. all the balconies in the whole complex are closed because they are structurally unsound. it doesn't take more than a google search to find out why. when we arrived, there was only 1 key. the door locks at night, so we had to be together in order to get in. the staff were SO RUDE. ponsoby road is a great location, but the nightmare of dealing with this hotel would have made staying someplace else a much better option. do yourself a favor and DO NOT STAY HERE.

As the title says, it is convenient for a one night stand. I had a room on the main floor, with a window, ok, but straight on a wall ... So if you are not looking for a view and are just staying for a night, fine. Rooms are clean though, internet is not for free, and is not super fast. Enough for mails, but that's it. No breakfast served.

In general, this was a fairly good hotel. Clean, and in a tremendous location with a great range of restaurants very close by. Also, a good supermarket is near the hotel and within easy walking distance if carrying bags of food etc. That said, I was disappointed with the room I was allocated. The windows were covered by shutters, so there was no view and hardly any natural light. I'm sure there must be better rooms and I was disappointed not to have received something better, given that the hotel didn't appear to be anywhere near full. Because of the nature of my trip, I needed the room only for sleep and left very early in the morning. Anyone wanting to stay at this place would be wise to ensure the room has natural light and at least some sort of view other than shutters.

Room tip: Ask at check in if the windows have natural light and are not obstructed by shutters.
