My husband and I stayed for 2 nights at the Aroden B&B in Rotorua in November 2010. We very much enjoyed our stay with Paul and Leonie. Upon arriving (early arrival), Leonie greeted us with tea for me and a beer for my husband along with cookies. She sat with us on the back patio (lovely gardens!) and went through what to see and do while in Rotorua. She took her time in explaining the area, she had maps and brochures available for us. She and Paul are from the area so they are very knowledgeable. We had a small queen, ensuite room which was very clean and very comfortable. There was an electric blanket on the bed (should it be needed), fresh fruit in the room, glasses for water, a closet. The bed was very comfortable. The bathroom, although small met all of our needs. Shampoo and body wash was provided. The breakfasts were wonderful! Fresh fruit, cereals, breads, cooked breakfasts (pancakes were delicious), tea, coffee and freshly squeezed juice. Leonie and Paul really made us feel welcome and truly showed us the Kiwi hospitality! They also provided free wireless internet which was important to us on our trip so we could keep in touch with our friends and family back home in the States. Also, Paul has an adorable guide dog (yellow lab) named Taupo who was a total pleasure (being animal lovers and fellow yellow lab owners). We would highly recommend Aroden to any traveller. We also feel that the price we paid was a good value for the area.

We too got this B&B tip from "Charming B&B's of New Zealand". We were most pleased with all the B&B's we stayed at that were listed on that website.
Aroden was a nice home with a lovely enclosed eating area overlooking the garden. Our room was plenty big and the bed was comfortable. We had our own large, comfortable and charming lounge with lots of cozy chairs and couch to relax and interesting things to read.
Our hosts were SO VERY FRIENDLY and helpful. We were made to feel very welcome and special. We were offered tea and cookies when we arrived. Our hosts didn't rush with us and seemed to really enjoy their guests as well as we very much enjoyed them. We got our dog fix too as we couldn't get enough of their adorable seeing eye dog Taupo.
Aroden B&B is an easy drive to town where there are lots of restaurants, lovely lake, some old Maui sights, and shopping. The thermal pools are an easy drive from the B&B. There are thermal areas open to the public from Lake Taupo up to Rotarua ranging from about $10 pp to $30 so read up on the differences before you choose. We didn't and just went to the large thermal area fairly near Aroden. and it was very large and took about an hour at least to go through it. It was about $30 per person and I thought at the time we should of maybe gone to a smaller one and got the taste of it and not spent so much money, but, oh well, we did it and it was fine.
Aroden is in a very nice residential area with a charming corner store close by. About 5 minutes away is a beautiful forest that you can park and go into the visitors center (very low key and free) where the friendly lady can guide you to some wonderful walks through the forest. Really beautiful and unexpected and a definite thing to do while there. There are lots of lakes nearby for boating and fishing.
Aroden is such a good base, great home and great hosts. It is a good value too. I would highly recommend Aroden.

Paul and Leonie have a house full of character and a marvelous conservatory where delicous breakfast of fresh fruit, muffins and cooked dishes are served. It overlooks the garden and spa pool which is indeed a treat on a cold winter afternoon. We so enjoyed our interaction and conversations with our hosts and excellent tips on outings and entertainments in Roturua area.

Our bed was most comfortable and room peaceful. A most relaxing visit with every ammenity of home. Great value for money too as the location is well placed for visits to dozens of Lakes and Thermal areas. Thanks so much...Avid saliors. Auckland NZ

I can thoroughly recommend this bed and breakfast stay. This is a beautiful large house, full of character. The bed was extreemly comfortable, and the furnishings are of a high quality and very tasteful. There is a very big guest lounge where you can relax in the evening (help yourself to hot drinks from the kitchen). Breakfast is served in the conservatory over looking the garden, and is ample - fresh fruit, cereal, cooked breakfast, and plenty of home baked items as well! I went for a walk at night with the charming hostess into the nearby redwoods to view the hundreds of glow-worms that light up the banks - magical and prefered this experiance to the ones we saw in Waitamo caves! We found this Bed and Breakfast through Charming bed and breakfast New Zealand - which is on line if you want to check it out.
Just a 5 min drive into Rotorua city and you are on the right side of town to visit the thermal parks and blue and green lakes.
