We found this place by accident after a boat trip to Huka Falls. The owner does initially come across a little odd but we stayed and chatted to him and found him fascinating. He was a fellow biker so maybe we are biased.
I suppose $13 may be expensive to some people but we found it reasonable compared to some of the other rip offs we had come across in NZ. It was actually refreshing to come across a place that hadn't been ruined by a bucket load of health and safety rules like it is in the UK.
We personally loved the walk, the lush vegetation, views and peacefulness of the walk was great. Fair enough the mud pools had dried up due to the lack of rain BUT...............is that the owners fault? I thought bubbling mud pools were a natural phenomena?
The food and drink in the Cafe was fine, loved the Animals milling around the place.
Lighten up people, the place is quirky and doesn't deserve some of the criticism.
If I was ten years younger I would by the place!
Oh and a note to parents............if you are taking your kids to a place like this make sure you keep them to the pathways AND under control. That way they WONT get burn't
