“FANTASTIC MOTEL ON THE LAKE”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 17 April 2011

A great place to stay as opposite the lake itself so quieter than other motels in the area. Dianne was a great character and nothing was too much trouble. Can walk round lake or walk out of your room and swim in lake or little hot pool on site. Stay in corner room overlooking lake!

Room Tip: On the lakeside is a big plus in Taupo

Awesome views!!,you have to pay to stay at a hotel with in room views like this and on the whole is priced quite reasonably,we like the way that no matter what room your in they are all the same price.People with big cars? be careful the carpark can be a tight fit,but with such a handy location, easily forgiven.Step outside and within a few metres your at the lakes edge, right on the walkway path, just perfect for that evening stroll by the water,or just to relax and feed the swans and ducks. We stayed three nights and would highly reccomend this to anyone wishing a great place to stay in Lake Taupo(we have already passed on their business card to some friends).

With the increase in price since the other times we have visited (and really enjoyed), we expected the finishing touches. Champagne flutes, a wine cooler, a coffee plunger in the room without having to ask, a variety of teas, possibly even ground coffee, a platter to serve the antipasti, a cheese knife.

It just lacked the details that other motels provide with a lower tariff.
I would recommend to friends but with the proviso that it is expensive for what is provided.

We are only too happy to provide these items in-room if that is the preference of our guests. As stated they are available on request. Tea & coffee is a very difficult area to meet guest's personal preferences due to the huge variety & styles now available and we find that most people now travel with their preferred product. Hence the most popular items only, are supplied to meet "Use by" dates. Our tariff has increased by $9 in the last 2 years, which includes $4 for the increase in GST. The tariff is a reflection on our prime lake edge position and if the choice of kitchen utensils supplied is not up to expectations we shall review them accordingly.
We thank you for taking the time to comment and look forward to seeing you again in the future.

After spending hours on the internet looking at motels in Taupo, we settled for Clearwater although a little more than we were wanting to pay, was well worth it. The children had a separate bedroom which allowed for adult time once they were in bed, the spa was located in the room which meant the adults could watch the children splash while sitting in the lounge. The plunge pool was fantastic, despite some people's comments that it is too small, it was perfect for a lovely hot dip on a winters afternoon (without the rest of the guests watching you!). The staff were very friendly and helpful. Even though we were on the ground floor tucked in near the back we could still see the lake. Would definitely return to Clearwater!!

Stayed at Clearwater for three nights in Dec while travelling through NZ.

We upgraded to water front corner room that was right on the seawall.
There are 6 rooms like this with King size beds and spa (jacuzzi) tubs.
These rooms are very nice with small kitchenettes, but all the other rooms in the complex are tucked back in the building with no view and looked very small.
The rooms were very clean and taken care of.

I would say that this lodge is better suited for medium range quick stop business travel rather than tourists unless you book one of the water front rooms.

The lodge advertises a pool, but it is very small and half under the back of the building.

We booked the breakfasts for our stay and this is not good and very expensive for what you get.

The staff are efficient, but somewhat surly.
It really felt like a quick stay hotel rather than a warm environment.
This was fine with us, but may not be for others.

The town is good walk of 10 minute car ride away.

There really isn't much else to say.
The place was average and expensive, but clean and comfortable.
The views on the other hand are hard to beat.

Happy travels...

We stayed in this motel for two nights. The motel is right on the lakeshore but because we needed an extra room for the third person in our party we had a back unit. The small bedroom backed onto the motel and guest laundry and as all the motel laundry is done on site the noise of industrial size machines roaring and vibrating through the walls from 0800 to 1600hours was a bit much for us.
Fortunately the locum managers did move us to one of the front units away from the laundry so all was well in the end.

The room was larger than I had expected (and it turned out to be much larger than the room we paid more for in Rotarua). The bed was awesome and I loved the spa in the "middle" of the room--you could watch tv and/or look at the view... it was great!

The service was extremely friendly and helpful (even after my boyfriend asked his millionth question in less than an hour!).

We were also able to order breakfast and although there wasn't a great deal of choice, it was very tasty and arrived hot.

I knew Clearwater was close to the lake when I booked this room, but I didn't realise exactly how close until I got there (it's right on the lake and you can walk down to it through Clearwater). It was awesome.

A downside for some people may be the fact that Clearwater was a little out of the centre of town (around 3 kms) but I liked it--it made you feel like you were away from everything, but when you needed something it was right there.

I have to say that my favourite part was the view and how you could relax on the bed or in the spa and see it :)

The only downside was Clearwater's pool. I didn't book the room because it had a pool (so I wasn't really counting on it being there), but I was disappointed in it nevertheless. It's half under the front of the building and doesn't look very inviting. On the upside, the temperature was quite nice.
