I stopped by unscheduled for a night. Lucky to find this little gem. Booked here because they were happy to accommodate my little dog but I’ll be making this my Taupo stopover whatever. Cute queen studio was great for a night, the other one bedroom units looked fantastic for longer. Beautifully maintained 60s and 70s furniture. Took the pooch for a stroll around the lake 2 minutes away - beautiful with geothermal activity right there. Recommended !

We wandered into Lake Taupo without a clue where to stay. We drove around and around and happened upon this boutique motel with only four self-contained units with ensuite, and kitchenettes. To quote the "Lonely Planet" guide a very retro place with retro furnishings. Extremely comfortable beds, very quiet area, and best of all Tony and Di were such pleasant hosts, overflowing with good information about what to do, what to see and best of all where to eat. We planned on one day in the area and liked this place so much, we stayed three.

Made this booking online to stay overnight with a colleague so needed 2 beds and a space for meeting. Self-contained unit with seperate bedroom, large bathroom and back door access to a shared garden. Quiet street. Pleasant hosts. Enjoyed the mid century decor and little extras like complimentary plunger coffee. Will stay again

My daughter and I stayed here on way from Wellington to Auckland. What a great hotel. The breakfasts were amazing the staff was overly friendly and everybody went out of their way to make this stay special. We were not so fortunate at the Hilton Chateau on the Park in Christchurch but this Hilton more than made up for that bad experience. I would highly recommend Lake Taupo and especially the Lake Taupo Hilton to anybody traveling to the North Island of New Zealand. Great pool. Wonderful grounds. Amazing history of this hotel and it was photographed by Robert Percy Moore in the 1920s. Can take a step back in time.

Set far enough away from the main road, but not so far that you can't walk to the shops. The Lake Motel is a stylish, modern looking place. The room was inviting, comfortable, uniquely decorated, and had everything I needed. Tony was welcoming and informative. Many thanks!
