We stayed at Cottage Mews during a 6 weeks tour of NZ and arrived quite late in the evening after a busy touring day. Sonja couldn't have been more welcoming and helpful. We were shown to a very pleasant room with lounge/kitchen upstairs and a lovely spa bath downstairs with separate bathroom and an outside private courtyard. We bought some steaks and corn from nearby a Countdown and cooked them on the bbq supplied by the venue foc. We enjoyed a lovely stroll to the lake and a g&t sundowner watching the fab sunset. It was a very comfortable stay with all the home comforts but with the added bonus of being right by lake Taupo. It was a little way - 20 mins walk to main hub of Taupo but that wasn't a problem for us. The walk around the lake was so enjoyable anyway.
I would definitely return to Cottage Mews and wish Sonja all the best with her new endeavour.

We stayed one night en route to Wellington, our hostess made sure we were comfortable and we appreciated all the little touches, good coffee, delicious biscuits and everything super clean. Gorgeous lavender bushes in the entrance-nice big bath too. The cooling fans were a much appreciated as well!

Went parasailing the next day on the lake before heading back-DO IT!

Comfy rooms with a nice Jacuzzi.
Super friendly hosts who were helpful and allowed us to hire another hour of the kayaks for free.
Close to beach and town centre.
Would go out of our way to stay again.

Room Tip: Ask for a room with the spa bath!

There was a mistake in our booking. The booking came out for 2 adults while we had a teenager with us. Sonja, the owner, was very accommodating to add an extra bed in the tiny room at additional charge. However that room should not be allocated to a family of two. It is meant for single business traveller. The motel is a few kms away from the main town. For us it was an ordinary experience. Sonja was a great host though!

This was a nice quiet place and good value. We had number 9 or 10. It had a bedroom and bathroom downstairs and a lounge/dining/kitchen upstairs. Lovely vew over the lake.

There was a laundry room which we used. Free to guests. $2 to use the dryer.

The only downside was that there is no decent chippy nearby and no restaurants without driving into Taupo. The hotel 10 mins walk away looked like it did nice (expensive) food. We did eat one night at the sailing club 5 mins walk away. They do a really good pizza and wine, but they don't do much else if you don't want pizza.

Management was changing the day we arrived.
