Our 3rd destination in NZ, and having had 2 great experiences before this, our expectations were already pretty high. As we turned off the main road, following signs for the Mudbrick Lodge, we were wondering where this place was. We were driving through hills and pastures, and grazing cattle, and beautiful scenery. When right at the end of the path, we spotted 2 lovely houses, one being the main house and the other the guest lodge. We drove up and the host, Tania, a very warm and hospitable person, greeted us, and showed us around. The guest lodge only had 2 rooms, one on the ground floor and one above. We were in the ground floor one, which was a little bigger. It was a very large room, with a kitchenette, a great bathroom and spacious sitting area. It has a nice balcony overlooking the fields, hills and gorgeous scenery. It's all a light natural wood colour, making it extra warm and kind of rustic yet very comfortable. It was possibly the quietest place I have ever been too.
The main house where Tania lives is where the meals are served. The dining area also overlooks the hills, and you can enjoy a great meal there.
Since this place was in the middle of nowhere, we opted to dine there that night, and Tania, being a great chef, whipped up a great meal, with a lovely bottle of wine. Make sure to do that at least once.
All soft drinks and beers are included in the price, bottles of wine aren't that expensive, breakfast is amazing! Make sure to have the fluffy omelet and the cereals. Dinners are great too, she makes whatever you want.
The area, though in the middle of nowhere, is not too far from the wine region of Blenheim, the Marlborough Sound, Abel Tasman National Park and the lovely town of Nelson. All in all, it was peaceful and a lot of fun.
