If there were a rating above "excellent" Christchurch Botanic Gardens would get it. We walked it with a volunteer guide and again by ourselves. We went early one day to spend time in the main Conservatory, which made me yearn for one of our own. The visitor center, cafe, and gift shop are in a beautiful space and worth a visit on their own. Walk by the river. Sit on a bench. Don't miss this absolutely superb garden! Bonus: entrance is free of charge.

This is one of the best botanical gardens I have ever visited. We didn't have much time because our time in Christchurch was cut short so we took the tour on the little train. I am so eased we did this. The tour takes just over an hour and is really informative. Our driver/guide had many little anecdotes and was knowledgeable about the plants and trees in the gardens.
The greenhouse is also well worth a walk through.

We had a truly enjoyable wander through the gardens. Well established rose bushes, incredible indoor displays. Jungle in a glass house! Ducks. Ferns. Cactus. Orchids. Nice paths and facilities. Beautiful and peaceful.

The Christchurch Botanic Gardens are well maintained and very interesting. There are many very large and old trees of different types. All are labeled. Plus the flower gardens are lovely. A great place to enjoy part of the day wandering the gardens and having a picnic lunch.

Very well looked after gardens, paths, fountain etc. Many plants on view are native to New Zealand and quite different to Australia.
