Great hotel - friendly and accommodating staff who greet you all the time and go out of their way for your needs! Amazing daily breakfast dining beside the lake. Beautiful scenic surroundings everywhere - it's right beside the beautiful Lake Wakatipu. Went there on a summer on a really great weather! Such a lovely unforgettable stay.

I initially booked this hotel as the Kawarau Hotel but it turned into the Double Tree along the way. The hotel is more in the Frankton area so there's not much of anything around here to do. We accessed the hotel via the Water Taxi from Queenstown (very convenient and A LOT cheaper to get to/from town $10 per person).

One complaint that I do have is that it is very inconvenient to access the Double Tree from the water taxi as there are only stairs to get to the hotel from the dock... you could imagine how fun this was with 3 bags (one being 40 lbs) up 6 flights of stairs in the rain....no ramp in sight. It killed by neck so my plans for the next day were ruined.

The hotel is very nice; we had a lake view with a small patio and the room itself was very spacious, no complaints. We had an issue with the bathtub but we called concierge and they were immediate with the response and fix. Beds were very comfortable and if I had time to spend in the hotel, I wouldn't mind staying cooped up in the room.

We had an issue with breakfast where there was a miscommunication with the charge and how many people were eating, but they fixed it without a fuss.

Since there aren't many things to do around the area, the Kawarau Village (including the Double Tree) offers many activities. There was a cinema for those that wanted to watch movies, a spa for those that want to relax, a booking concierge for any activities to do in Queenstown, and a bike rental place to bike along Lake Wakatipu. We took the biking option (in lieu of going back to Queenstown via water taxi) and they provided routes along the lake (or back to Queenstown) with amazing views and an adventurous terrain. Very accommodating to their guests, I wouldn't hesitate to come back

Room tip: Wi-fi available in the lobby

Dear Amy T

Thank you for your review. I think you might have been one of the first to arrive by Water Taxi. I will be sure to speak to the team to see if we can call in advance in such cases so we can have someone there to assist when you arrive.

Great to read you enjoyed yourself. I hope we have the chance to host you again soon.

Kind regards,

Chris

What a magnifcent hotel! Staff was perfect, polite, friendly and very helpfull!

Modern decorated rooms with kitchenette(with all you need to prepare a meal) and lounge area! Extremelly confortable bed and pillows. Clean rooms!

Bathroom is small, but stylish. The only thing that bothered me the most is the curtains in bath tube( I hate it, they should put a glass door), and the amenities is not complete. No cap shower, no cotton swabs!

The Villa location is very beautifu, breathtaking views of Lake Wakatipu, but far from Queenstown centre15min drive, or 10 min via water taxi (paid NZ$10,00) or they offer a complementary shuttle service. But very close to the airport, 5 minutes.

They also have a tourist agency where you can book all the tours you want to take. Very handy, and the ladies are very friendly and helpful!

No swimming pool for Double Tree guests, but you can pay NZ$20,00 each to use Hilton's indoor swimming pool. In wich I find out later, that is very beautiful and I would have paid for it, even finding expensive.
