“Great hotel, perfect location”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 29 May 2012

Went to Queenstown for 3 nights with a friend and stayed previously at this hotel for work. Friendly staff, perfect location right in the centre of town and a well appointed room. We were given a slight glimpse of the lake from our room, but the room was nice and quiet facing in towards the hotel gardens.

Would recommend if you want to be right in the heart of things in Queenstown.

Room Tip: Facing in towards the hotel gardens or on the end with a lakeside view.

Nice hotel on the edge of the centre, in a quiet area, next to the lake; easy short walk to the main streets with shops and restaurants. Also next to a park with a big kids playground.

Very comfortable, clean room with great beds. TV was quite small though, it's more a computer screen on which you can also watch TV.

We didn't try the breakfast as we found NZD 30 per person a bit expensive. Instead we went to the amazing bakery on Shotover street for our breakfasts (best breads and muffins ever).

Staff was great and helped us with everything; also got a stuffed toy animal for our 4-year-old. Free wi-fi and Internet computers (2 near reception, often occupied though), all with 20-minute sessions (but you can use multiple sessions).

Hotel offered two car park options, garage (NZD 10) or valet (NZD 20). We chose garage and got a parking ticket from reception for 24-hour parking at the nearby public garage. Cheaper than valet but a little annoying that every day I had to get a new 24-hour ticket and drive the car out of the garage and back in...

Great hotel in the center of Queenstown.. Check in was pain-less, the room was small and tidy.... Bed was comfortable...... Agree with comments about heating.. there was only a small fan heater in the room.. it was on thermostat but switch on and off through out the night... The layout of the hotel gives limited views of the lake, however does over look a nice garden... because of the U shape of the hotel if there is noisy neighbors the nose can travel around the courtyard...
I would recommend staying here its location is a huge plus... close to the lakefront, bars and shops.. the hotel does provide parking at an extra cost... there is free after-hours evening parking available in the street,,,,Spend the extra for the peace of mind....
Check out was great...

Dear Guest

Thanks for your positive comments - it was good to hear that there were several aspects of your stay that you found to your liking - we try hard to make sure that all of our guests feel this way and appreciate the feedback.

The Hotel does not get a lot of comments about noise and generally our guests say how quiet it is despite the size of the Hotel and the fact that it is so centrally located. The gardens and the lakeside location are great positives for most of our guests.

Heating in the Hotel rooms is via a heat pump in the top floor rooms and via a wall heater controlled by a thermostat in the 3 ground floors - this should provide adequate heat in all rooms and if this is not the case we would want to be aware of it. Portable heaters are available as well as extra blankets if required.

The Hotel is currently investigating extending the air conditioning to all rooms but is keen to do so in the most environmently friendly way in line with our Earth Check certification. We expect to partially complete this work in 2012 and finalise it in 2013.

Thanks again for your comments - we do hope to see you again soon

Kind regards

Jim Moore

This is a delayed review of our experience at Novotel Queenstown Lakeside. We stayed at this resort in July during the ski season. Upon arrival of our room I found a pair of ladies underwear on the floor under the table. After notifying staff they said they would remove them straight away. When we came back from dinner the underwear were still there so we had to complain a second time. When it came time to go to bed I pulled back the sheets to find a massive stain! So back to reception to tell staff. Had to wait half an hour for house keeping to change the sheets. The next day management did approach us to offer us an apology and a $50 food voucher at their restaurant. Got the scallop pasta for $28 with only 2 scallops in it! The hotel is in a nice location but after our experience, Im sure you can find a better hotel experience else where.

Dear Tankabell44

Thanks for your belated response to your stay in July 2011 and allowing us the opportunity to respond.

It sounds as if there were a couple of issues during your stay and that these in part were dealt with by the Duty Manager in a positive way with the provision of a $50 food and beverage voucher and an apology.

We regret that you were inconvenienced in this way - we generally get very positive comments about the housekeeping but I will share this comment with the team as a lesson that we are only as good as the last guest that we deal with. It is our aim to look after all guests and we apologise if we let ourselves down in this instance.

The Hotel has been focussing on our food and beverage offerings - menus and staffing have changed in the past 10 months and we are comfortable that the feedback we are getting about our restaurant shows us that our guests feel we are offering value for money and a good level of service.

Thanks for your comments

Regards

Jim Moore

Tv kept crapping out. Internet was extremely expensive - $5 for 15mb or 30 min... $30 for 24 hours!

Housekeeping turning up at 9am waking us up. Then again 30min later.
