This is a good location up a VERY steep hill but it has parking which is a must in this town. The apts are old and tired and you feel that even though they are clean no one really cares to upgrade them. One little bar of soap and some thin towels no meals but they do have good kitchens with all one needs. Seems more suited to maybe a ski weekend then a summer hotel. The town is not much so worked for the one night.

Room tip: most rooms the same. Old

a short walk from the centre, so away from the noise of the gap year kids letting off steam in town , but close enough to stroll to the lake and restaurants. Lovely, blond girl at reception was very helpful and the room was spacious-fittings/doors a little dated and price wasn't cheap, but was high season and the view of the lake and the location justifies this.

We stayed at turner Heights for 4 nights in the last days of our trip to NZ. The location is perfect. We had a car, so the parking spot just outside was perfect but we didn't use it to go into town as everything was so close. The houses sit on the top of a cliff, so the view is beautiful and the walk up is a great exercise! :-) The apartment was really clean, comfortable with a very well equipped kitchen and a barbie in the outside courtyard . The beds are really comfy and there are lots of tv channels, not that we watched much tv but it was great for the kids to watch tv before they went to sleep. The reception staff was really nice and helpful and they gave us all the tips we needed to make our stay easier.
It was perfect for us, a family of 4 with 2 young kids

I was travelling with hubby, my Mum and a friend of hers. We had a 2 bedroom apartment with 1 bathroom (one closest to reception, just above their laundry – this was fine, couldn’t hear a thing).

This is a hard one to rate for us but overall it came out around a 3/5 or 3.5/5.

We didn’t realise the toilet was in the only bathroom (smallish, narrow bathroom with toilet right beside shallow bath with showerhead over bath arrangement). If we had known this we would have stayed in a similar priced apartment that had 2 bathrooms, 2 bedrooms instead (the one we were considering was slightly further out from the main town centre but as it turned out we discovered would have been easier to walk in/out of as it didn’t have the steep hill that Turner Heights is on).

THE HILL: is short (~100m maybe) and yes, it is quite steep (was easy for hubby and I in our 50’s). Mum and her friend (in their 70’s) had to have a quick ‘breather’ stop part way up. I told them it was good cardio. Mum replied it’s saving grace is that it “goes for a short time, not a long time”.

Apartment had a nice view over the town and lake (marred slightly by power lines but not enough to spoil our view, we certainly enjoyed looking out our lounge window (2nd floor) and from our main bedroom balcony (1sr floor). A view of Queenstown overlooking the town and lake is quite pretty, but no more so than many other idyllic little towns backed into valleys or surrounded by mountains in many places across Europe (for example).

The walk to Ferberger (in middle of town area) would easily be less than 1/2km, same with walking up to the gondola base and down to the lake. It was very well positioned for walking access to the things we wanted to do and our car never left it’s designated spot for the 2 days, 2 nights.

Once entering there is a space at the bottom of your own internal stairs (maybe for ski gear in season?), then you go up to the 1st floor to reach both bedrooms (main has king bed and balcony, large room – other is smaller and 2 single beds) plus the bathroom with loo in it. Next flight of stairs up to 2nd floor takes you to a good-sized lounge, dining area and kitchen (with washing machine and dryer in the good sized kitchen). Kitchen had everything we needed and on arrival it has tea/coffee/hot choc/sugar sachets and some UHT milks.

It was clean and the kitchen/lounge area functional. Free WIFI worked okay. Okay selection of TV channels per Mum’s friend.

Our designated car park was open to the street as was another. The other apartments had an enclosed garage underneath them.

Whilst they don’t service the apartment for a short 2 night stay they do point out that you can swap your towels, etc, anytime with fresh ones from their downstairs laundry.

We would look for other accom’s next time we are in Queenstown if we were travelling with another couple. Don’t let our preferences put you off if you are considering this property though – it is more about who you are travelling with, how mobile they are, how much privacy your companions like, etc.

It wasn’t the dearest, nor the cheapest, of the accom’s we considered. We’ve stayed in hundreds of different types of accom’s over almost 35 years of travel and this would be ‘right in the middle’ for us. Nothing bad. Nothing special. Very similar to some of the timeshares we’ve stayed in that are perfectly functional but no special, quirky or charming ambience overall.
