Steamers Inn

5.0 of 5 bubblesReviewed Sep 30, 2018via mobile
The antiques and cats made me feel right at home immediately. The family that runs this inn is knowledgeable and warm. We were given every courtesy and more in order to feel comfortable. The view from the porch was lovely. We walked to the Sunday farmers market and had a great time. The breakfasts were delicious and we are thinking of visiting again.

We stayed one night at Steamers as we were in need of a room after driving all day from western Quebec. We booked a room based on recommendations from others. On arrival, we were cordially met and showed our room by the owners' son. He also provided information regarding a nearby restaurant for dinner - good suggestion. We did know that the B&B did have cats (READ THE FINE PRINT IN THE DESCRIPTION), but generally cats in other B&Bs we've stayed at don't have the run of the house as these did. Fortunately they did not trigger my allergies as we slept. The building is a nicely maintained old inn with nice antique furnishings. And we had a nice view of the river from our room. Unfortunately, we didn't have any drinking glasses in our room though they provided bottled water.

Sadly, the owners had their personal belongings scattered everywhere in the common areas. Breakfast was a simple hot meal, filling but not memorable. The cereal bar could have used some refreshing, and fresh fruit could have been made available. They did make a good capuchino.

We did have a nice visit with Gary, one of the owners, and did learn a little about their efforts to operate Steamers; however, we feel they could do a little more with housekeeping to make an average operation into a superior one.

The folks at this B&B couldn't have been kinder or more considerate. When I arrived and discovered that they have cats, to which I'm allergic, they immediately offered to find us another place to stay -- even though we had provided credit card information and it was 7:00 p.m. on the day we were checking in. It's a lovely home with gorgeous mature trees right on the water, and the hospitality was surpassingly good. Most places would have charged us and told us where to go but not actually helped.

This place is lovely. Great location and wonderful owners. They worked so hard to make everything to our liking. As a coffee lover it was wonderful to see that they had a range of different coffees available and the huge range of cocktails to try were fantastic! I would not hesitate to return. I would even consider coming back to visit for the afternoon to sit on their deck, overlooking the river, drinking coffee or cocktails.

Gary worked very hard to ensure our visit was all that we wanted and so I was pretty shocked when I read previous negative reviews on this wonderful B&B because our experience was totally positive so please do not listen to them.

This is a lovely, friendly and affordable place to stay and hands down beat the cold, unfriendly modern chain hotel.

We stayed here for one night in transit across New Brunswick. Gary was very welcoming after our long day's drive. He filled us in on the history and character of the building, which he takes quite seriously and wants to live up to. The building is old, but well maintained, with wood paneling and antique-style furnishings (with the exception of the breakfast tables).

We were on an overnight trip for our 40th anniversary. Our daughter made all the arrangements with the Inn. It was such a surprise. They fell over backwards to organize the trip with our daughter. They suggested all sorts of things to my daughter, arranged the events, and got the best prices for her. My wife is a vegetarian and they took that into account too. It was a fantastic success overall. The accommodation itself was very interesting and different. History at a very reasonable price! The deck over the river is wonderful. Their cocktails are at the best we have ever tried. I don't think that we have had a better stay and I wish them every success - the really deserve it on the evidence of this.

Room tip: Get a river view if possible
