Great stay right on the river!

5.0 of 5 bubblesReviewed Sep 25, 2022via mobile
We came across Steamers by accident and we so glad we did! A little family run gem right on the river in the cutest Gagetown. Located in a historic house, It is family owned and run they cook breakfast right there. Very comfortable bed and the river view! All in all a great experience!

If you ever wanted to write the great Canadian novel or go into the witness protection program, this century home is the place for you. On a tributary of the Saint John River that once had steamships plying its waters, the inn has fascinating antiques and historic prints. It is furnished in original furniture and chestnut, maple and oak paneling.
With a wrap-around verandah, you can enjoy the peace of the riverbank while having a delicious home-cooked breakfast. Do try the omelet and the homemade baked goods.
The Dawson family is so very welcoming, we'll be sure to include this idyllic spot in our annual travel itinerary.

We stayed here overnight for my husband’s birthday and Steamers was just the perfect place. A good value for our money as it was affordable, clean, comfortable and quiet with charming historic atmosphere and very friendly. Brent, our host was very accommodating and personable and had a lot of knowledge of the building’s history and area. You can tell that the b&b is a labour of love for him and his family and they have taken great care into maintenance of the historic charm of this Regency era house. Their kitty, Mary-Ann (who is a Munchkin breed) was a little doll of a cat! Was as sociable and friendly as a dog and was also a great host! We felt very welcome.

Our bed was comfy and our breakfast was large portioned and delicious, as well as our espresso drinks. This place is also licensed if you want to just come in for some nice ale or a cocktail.

Parking was easy as there weren’t many guests there other than ourselves, so it was very quiet. I’m not sure how this place would be during high season, however, Gagetown is pretty small and quaint, so I suspect t even in the busiest of months it is still pretty quaint and peaceful, as the house is large and can accommodate a good amount of people without a lot of noise or disturbances (other than an automatic old doorbell that goes off everytime someone walks in or out..).
Overall, We were pleased in our stay and will be back if we’re ever in Gagetown again overnight. Highly recommend.

My wife and I have often come here with friends/family for cocktails and have loved it. Incredible drinks and a stunning atmosphere. The owners are exentric and have made it truly unique.
I stayed overnight for the first time with some friends last night and was pleasantly surprised with how well kept and clean everything was. It was comfortable, functional, charming and rustic. The staff/owners were very attentive and accommodating. Very cool spot, would recommend.

Location is nice and they are dog friendly

Nothing else is good, nothing

Dirty, old, unkempt and lousiest coffee ever

went there yers ago and it was OK at best

new management made us try it again because we support local efforts but it was a total bust

deck is basically falling apart, not even clean, railing above the 10 foot fall to the river, broken

Coffee was AWFUL..... two for 10 bucks .....

My Nespresso makes better any morning that I push the button

Im sure they can improve but not sure they care

Have been there almost three years apparently and haven't done ANYTHING

Dont go until they make an effort

Sorry

Room tip: go elsewhere

we are sorry you did not like the coffee, if it had been brought to our attention we would have gladly remade your latte for you.
thank-you for letting us know that the railing is missing a lag bolt as we rebut it last summer.
it is a sad thing that with Canadian weather being so harsh on coatings that the paint on the deck needs to be redone, and we are looking into finding a pant that will last for more than one season. (even pool coatings do not guarantee the paints and finishes for more than 3 months here in Canada)

we are proud of our newly refinished rooms and pictures can be found on our Expedia listing.

it is a shame that none of you concerns were brought to our staff at the time.

We really enjoyed our stay. The hosts were amazing, and extremely accommodating. The house is filled with history. I wish we had more time to take it all in. My only complaint is the bathroom and shower are very small, and difficult for me to use as a large person.
