“Some good - some not so good”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 28 March 2012

House renovations necessitated that we stay the night away from home and so we found ourselves at Trappers.

Reception staff varied from pleasant to a little abrupt. Our room was large but reminiscent of the 70's with acres of bare brick walls. It was clean though perhaps a little gloomy. The tv was perhaps the smallest money can buy. In a large room I felt the need for binoculars to see the screen.

The bathroom was clean and well presented, especially so, in that it sported an exhaust fan and overhead heating. Considering that Goulburn has suffered the exingencies of drought for ten years the shower head was a full-flow unit when the Goulburn Council has been urging residents to conserve water for years.

We ordered a room-service meal but needed to ring reception when it failed to appear after an hour. I was told the staff were very busy but that the meal would be there in half an hour - and it was! Quite nice with lots of steamed vegetables.

However, breakfast arrived on time and was mostly good though the bread provided for toast was somewhat tasteless.

All-in-all the motel met our needs for the night but was expensive for what it was.

Located right next to the Big Marino! A handy stopover just off the M5 between Canberra and Sydney and was a good alternative to staying in Canberra where the cost of hotels are extortionate when parliament is in session! The rooms were spacious and clean (especially the bathroom). Tea, coffee and biscuits provided...as well as a couple of home-made welcome cookies on arrival! The beds were comfy (good pillows) and there was a good selection of channels on the TV. I ate at the restaurant which was excellent, albeit overpriced and overly fancy for a highway motel...I would definitely stay here again.

We don't usually stay in this motel but our usual was booked out. Rooms were ok clean enough would stay for a stop over but wouldn't stay for a long period. Reception and staff were very friendly location average as the trucks pull into the service station right next to the hotel. Wouldn't not recommend but would not rate it as something to consider booking each time. A good back up hotel.

My husband and I frequently break our journey at the Trapper's Motor Inn in Goulburn on our way to and from Sydney. Over the years we have tried various other motels, but it is hard to beat the location and amenties offered here. We paid $123 for our room, which they told us was a senior's discount rate. What we like about Trappers: 1 very large very clean rooms. 2 Very large clean bathrooms. 3 They give you a small jug of actual FRESH milk and a couple of very nice home-baked biscuits (cookies); 4 It is within walking distance of several different eating options catering to all budgets. We make the whole experience a treat, so we eat at their very pricey but gorgeous in house restaurant. 5 The petrol station is right next door so you can fill up very conveniently before you leave. The staff are friendly and we have found it to be very quiet. We do like to stay in the Retreat if we can. The only down and it was a significant one for me this last visit was the bed quality. It was as hard as they come, and because I have an oddly shaped spine and osteoarthritis on the spine, this is quite an issue. So despite all the other comforts of the motel, I didn't sleep at all well, and my husband who usually quite prefers a harder bed also slept fitfully. So, sadly I am marking the hotel down on that basis.

Room Tip: Ask for the Retreat

My husband and I stayed here on our return trip from Sunshine Coast Qld, to Melbourne. The facility looked nice from the outside, but we didn't get any sleep. The brick walls are paper thin and we could hear everything from our neighbour's rooms including their toilet visits throughout the night. The room was outdated with a small TV and the refrigerator was not cold, nor did it have a door on the freezer section. Check out process was a nightmare with a long line of cars waiting outside the office as everyone decided to check out at the same time. It was interesting to read the reviews here relating to costs, someone said they paid $104 - someone else $120 - we paid $121.... the most expensive of our entire trip, yet I would only rate the facility as 3***

Stayed here for two nights. Got upgraded to large room in "The Retreat", a seperate section of the property which is very quiet. The rooms are very comfortable with king size beds and modern, large bathrooms.

Reception staff are very friendly and welcoming. There is an excellent restaurant on site - it's not cheap, but the food is very good and the staff are attentive and pleasant.
