“Fantastic service and totally immaculate”
Reviewed 25 March 2017 for a stay in March 2017

4 Of us booked here for 3 nights for a friends 60th birthday.
Absolutely picture perfect and so so tidy.
Doreen & Warren provided a lock up garage for our motorcycles, breakfast we spot on.
We had a BBQ with Doreen & Warren (as guests have full rein of pool and backyard garden area with BBQ) and we had a ball.
Would highly recommend Charlton House and will stay there next trip to Wallsend.
This is only third establishment in 8 years I have given 5 stars too ( funnily enough all 3 are B&Bs( Norton North Ranch in BC Canada and Lupus Den in Eastern Cape are the other 2) and it is totally deserved

Thank you Allan for your glowing review and comments following your stay with us recently. You, Viv and the boys were such a delight to host and we would have loved the opportunity to get to know you even better. Maybe that will happen when we get across to the West. We feel humbled and honoured that you would include us in such great company with the other 5 star facilities you mentioned. Until we meet again. Doreen.

“It was a fantastic way to celebrate my Mum's 80th, together with my brothers.”
Reviewed 24 October 2016 for a stay in October 2016

We all felt very welcome at Charlton House, such a beautifully decorated and comfortable home away from home. Doreen's hospitality was truly wonderful, and breakfast the next morning was a gourmet experience.
Thank you Doreen for making my Mum feel so special over the weekend, she'll never forget our time at Charlton House.

It was an absolute pleasure to meet you, your gorgeous Mum and lovely brothers. Having an elderly Mum myself, it was so enjoyable celebrating your Mum's special birthday with you. I do wish you could have stayed longer and experienced life at Charlton House more leisurely. Maybe next time!!

“Wonderful stay”
Reviewed 26 January 2016 for a stay in January 2016

Doreen and Warren were terrific hosts. This B & B is a sophisticated mix of old world charm and mod cons. We were quickly settled in on our arrival and were made to feel at home. Breaky was delicious - Doreen sets a great spread including her home made strawberry jam and lemon curd.
The property is lovely - we swam in the pool and lazed around the BBQ. My teenage son had separate digs down the hall with his own ensuite while my husband and I enjoyed the expanse of a king size bed in the "pretty room".
Lovely sitting on the verandahs relaxing and it is very close to where we needed to go at the showground.

Thank you Michelle for this glowing review. Warren and I are humbled by your opinion of our home. It was a pleasure having you as you were just like extended family. Friendly, cooperative and very respectful of our lovely house. The cleanliness of the home on your departure was exceptional and we would absolutely love to have you stay with us again. May be next time we can fire up the pizza oven for another family gathering.

“Spoil yourself at a reasonable rate.”

For what you get here, you would expect to pay double anywhere else.
We stayed 2 nights for the first time in July 2015, thanks to the recommendation of our new 40 year old bride, Pam Bass of Travel Managers Newcastle.
In Newcastle for her 40th and wedding weekend it was very central. The B&B is a short drive to anywhere in Newcastle and only a few minutes’ walk to several entertainment venues, shops, supermarket and restaurants. We had the venue to ourselves the first night and comfortably shared the second with an extended adult Brisbane family of 4 visiting Sydney who booked rooms as a 60th birthday present for the mother and also used it as a base to tour the Hunter Wine district.
This is a user friendly B&B to enjoy the true experience of a “Bed and Breakfast” or as it should be called here … Bed Breakfast ‘AND’
AND Great Bed- AND Great Sleep- AND Great Relax- AND Great Amenities - AND Great Hosts- AND Great food –AND Good Value.
When leaving we agreed possibly the best Australian B&B we have stayed in.
Can highly recommend Charlton House for that special occasion or just because you, or someone you know will deserve it. Suggest it would be an ideal venue for middle age couples, extended ‘adult’ families or small groups who enjoy the finer things in life.
Charlton House was also used for our Internal wedding photos in Newcastle.
This B&B has especially Great amenities for a suburban area. There is ample space to relax in antique style parlour and dining room areas, even listening to classical music by an imitation log fire while basking in the warmth of the centrally heated rooms was a welcome relax after a long winter drive.
The nostalgic verandas with wrought iron settings also looked inviting for summer months.
Did I mention the Great Breakfast- The continental breakfast with a MASSIVE array of good home cooked local products, condiments, breads and in season fruits, accompanied with a variety of juices, teas and even a homemade cappuccino or latte as good any professional barista.
You have to try the home cooked toasted banana bread _ ( I mean you really do have to try the Banana bread, or you are not allowed to leave the table.)
For those who want to put on ‘more than a Kilo a day, there was also an a la carte breakfast option, or the offer to pre organise any special dietary requirements.
Having travelled extensively, I recognise this couple go above and beyond to assistant in all facets of our stay _ from invites to join happy hour and even a surprise offer to drive us to venues so we could relax without the car. They did more than expected of any 5 or 6 star accommodation venue.
Other amenities included period style King and Queen Size Deluxe Bedrooms, reasonable size digital TVs in the bedrooms, outdoor Pool and undercover BBQ venue with large screen TV and pizza oven, all overlooking the suburban lights and hills of Newcastle.
We will not go past Newcastle without revisiting Charlton House B&B.
Great value for money and spotlessly clean. Many thanks to Doreen, the host with the most, putting the AND into ‘BedBreakfast’ ….. see you next time.

“A warm and pleasant stay in Doreen's beautiful European venture home”

We are a group of 7 from Singapore, going to Australia for a free and easy winter trip.
Doreen's place is our second accommodation. We reach her house on the 4th day of our trip. Was so excited to saw her house was so beautiful that we need to spend some time to explore it, including photo taking!
House was big, every corner was well-designed. Bed is warm and comfort. And heater works well too!
Doreen is a friendly, caring, helpful and sweet host. During the stay in her house, we have the thought of we are a member of the house, because Doreen really take a good care of us. So sweet that you can still enjoy mother's love when you are far away from home.

On the second (last) night, The family even prepare for us a BBQ dinner that is a new experience to us (different from SG style).

I would recommend this B and B to all and especially to those who would like to know more about local's life style.

“Great welcome, restful night”
Reviewed 1 June 2015 for a stay in May 2015

Doreen is a wonderful host, we arrived a little later than planned. Received some recommendations for dinner, but the pub was so full, we skipped it. We will try getting to dinner earlier next time. When we returned from dinner, a glass of wine and cheese and crackers, and home made biscuits waited for us.
the bed was comfortable, the room nicely decorated.
A lovely breakfast, fresh fruit, yoghurt, cereal and toast, coffee or a pot of tea.
Would suit a group travelling together. Shared bathroom.
A beautiful place, wonderful hospitality and close to the the M1 and Newcastle.

“Unbelievable hosts and gorgeous accomodation”

I was "fortunate" enough to be staying at Charlton House during the worst of the recent Newcastle storms. I travel almost every week for business so experience many and varied different types of accommodation.
I arrived like a drowned rat to be greeted with amazing hospitality and a gorgeous nibbles platter.
The house is beautifully decorated and presented. The hosts are amazing, you can have as little or as much contact with them as you like.
The power went during my first night, however the bathroom still had a fabulous shower with very hot water. In the morning, despite no power , I was presented with breakfast under extreme difficulties I am sure.
when I arrived home after a busy day at work, there was a welcoming fire burning in the gorgeous guest lounge and a glass of wine and cheese platter and candles everywhere.
I felt very, safe, warm and very happy to be in such a lovely environment with such lovely and gracious hosts. I am hoping that my work will bring me to Newcastle more often in the future.
I would recommend this B and B to all and sundry, it is very special. I could not rate it more highly.
I rarely rate higher than good, but this is excellent
