The most wonderful first high tea experience

5.0 of 5 bubblesReviewed Aug 16, 2021
This place is so beautiful and only a short enjoyable drive from Newcastle to The Hunter Valley. We were lucky enough to have the chef Sue Oakley come out to our table to introduce herself and run through all the amazing treats. I do have to comment on the apple dessert which looked just like a green apple in miniature version and tasted like heaven! Once we had indulged on all the food and wine Sue then took us for a little walk around the property so we got to see the hall and the courtyard area as well. The food was all fresh and top quality, the wine was also fabulous! Thank you so much Sue and the incredible staff at Kirkton Park for such a wonderful evening with very special company. This was my first high tea experience and I would love to come back to Kirkton Park Hotel for my second!

We visited Kirkton Park in the Hunter Valley for an absolutely delicious High Tea. The room overlooked the beautiful rose garden and the food just kept coming, the glass of bubbles was superb and topped our lunch off nicely. The staff were friendly and went out of thier way to make us comfortable. I would highly recommend this experience.

Have stayed at Kirkton Park before so was looking forward to staying there again.

The positives are the location and the beautiful gardens and also the pool which we virtually had to ourselves during our stay.

However when we stayed in May there were a lot of children staying, i have no problems with children as long as they are behaved but it seems some of the parents were ignoring what their kids were doing which impacted on other people, its the first time i have encountered lots of children when i have stayed.

Check in staff were friendly , helpful and pleasant, the staff at breakfast service were also friendly and pleasant but both mornings there were problems with the breakfast with things missing off the plate that were mentioned on the menu, they were quickly rectified but shouldn't have happened in the first place. My partner ordered the same breakfast both mornings but what came out on the second morning was different in presentation to the first morning and had items missing. This might be a minor quibble but for a 4 star resort should be better.

Overall it was a pleasant stay but cant rate it above 3 stars.

Booked in restaurant for anniversary dinner.
A place where we married 5 years ago.
Apparently only 2 bookings for the night.
Restaurant decided to close for the night and couldn't bother contacting us.
Only to find out upon our arrival.
You would think a phone call would be appropriate.

Room tip: Call before to ensure open

Can only give a terrible rating as there is no lower available.

In April 2021 booked a room 2 months ahead. 9 days before our arrival the hotel called and advised they were cancelling our booking as they wanted the room for someone else. What the.....?
See other feedback for other instances of the same treatment - a total disregard for guests.
They said they would email some info on alternative accommodation but we received nothing. No phone call and no email. To add further insult 2 days before our booking we received an email saying they were looking forward to welcoming us. !!! Then guess what ?....3 days after we were due to stay they charged our credit card for the 2 nights.
Are these guys for real.
Management have got a few issues to sort.
Clearly they have no idea of what's going on as far as communication goes.

Will never stay there as their history of total disrespect for guests is clear.
If you have a booking there make sure you have an alternative in mind.

DO NOT BOOK. Worst hotel customer service experience in over 20 years of travel.

Booked and paid for in full a 40th birthday celebration to stay at this hotel in January 2021. The hotel contacted us Friday 28 May (11 days before our stay) to say they had booked the entire hotel for exclusive use and they wanted to simply move us to their sister hotel.

I spoke to the supervisor on duty Joel who was tasked with moving guests to the Crowne Plaza. He informed me I would have to arrange my own refund with Qantas and blamed the Crowne Plaza rather than his hotel constantly during a phone call. Zero ownership of responsibility for creating the situation for the hotel's own financial gain. The general manager called the situation ‘unfortunate’ and something that ‘does not happen often’, however when pointed out that almost all of the hotel's negative feedback related to them cancelling individual contracts for exclusive use bookings he changed his tone. ‘Unfortunate’ shows a lack of acceptance that the hotel made a deliberate financial decision to cancel a private contract and screw over clients who have planned holidays well in advance.
