Beautiful place

4.0 of 5 bubblesReviewed Apr 13, 2021
unfortunately this was our first trip to the Hunter Valley and it just happened to be when the floods were happening, so it was literally pouring down rain the entire time we were there, so didn't get to see a lot of the place. It looks like on a nice day it would be amazing though! Our room was lovely and clean, and had a very spacious spa bath. There were a lot of bugs, but I did notice a sign saying that they do regularly spray for bugs, but because of their close proximity to the Hunter Valley Gardens its impossible to keep them away, they didn't bother us though. We ate at the restaurant for breakfast, which was lovely. Staff were knowledgeable about the area and accommodated any requests. Great location in the Hunter Valley, close to other wineries, eateries and attractions

Mecure Resort Valley Gardens although starting to show its age a bit is a straight forward studio style roomed hotel with drive up access to your room.
The location is what gives this hotel its advantage by being central to a large number of wineries and restaurant's all within easy walking distance, when visiting wine country this removes the worry of driving, the hotel is even serviced by one of the popular gastro pubs courtesy bus.
If simple clean accommodation with all the amenities is what you want in the Hunter then the Mecure Hunter Valley Gardens fits the bill. Just hope you get a room with an upgraded bed mattress as the old one we had was very hard/lumpy resulting in the last two nights being spent on the sofa bed as it was more supportive.

Dear Col,
Thank you very much for your detailed review of your recent stay with us.
Delighted to hear that you enjoyed our centrally located hotel and its convenience when visiting this beautiful part of the world.
I am however terribly sorry to hear about the quality of the mattress and disappointed that my team was not able to offer you another room to stay in after an uncomfortable night on that mattress.
We are in the process of getting all our mattresses replaced so I trust you will get to enjoy a good night sleep on what feels like a cloud, on your next stay with us.

From the check in where the staff were so friendly and polite and was very impressed with them and also at checkout just as polite and lovely. We were fortunate enough to get an upgrade and the room was absolutely beautiful so close to the pool and a fireplace and it was the best I have and my husband stayed in all over the world and we have travelled almost everywhere. The swimming pool is large and good temperature and the breakfast was great. Our room was cleaned daily to a high standard..

Room tip: near the pool on the ground floor is easy access to everything

Very disappointed with the value and quality of this resort. We have been at many mecures across the world and this is the worst value for money and level of inclusions we have had. We could not get a drink at the bar area and were told to get a take away and drink outside. Before they blame Covid, there was ample facilities inside to comply with Covid rules. When trying to order food , we were told to go to our room and order room service.
Other than the location, this has nothing going for it and considering we paid nearly $450 a night I would most definitely not stay there again.

Thank you for your post Storman65.
Unfortunately during your travel dates there were still restrictions that prevented us from putting on our usual items but we do ensure guests are aware of this prior to travelling, both our website and prearrival email include the details you need.
Covid rules at the time didn't allow you to stand and drink, so we did have to close the stand up bar even though it complies with capacity it didn't apply with liquor licensing rules at the time.
Very excited that things have changed and we are able to move forward from this with most services being able to be returned to normal. Fingers crossed it stays that way.
Best wishes for travelling in the future.
Kind regards
Julie @ Mercure

Firstly by the speed of response to a problem with the TV remote, within minutes there was a knock on the door & there was Karen with fresh batteries!
Secondly the room was serviced. We have stayed in many hotels during COVID & this was the first time, I was concluding that this was a way to reduce costs. So well done Mercure Resort Hunter Valley Gardens.
