My husband and I needed a getaway from Sydney for a couple of days and after reading other great reviews of Tonic, we thought it sounded like the place for us!

From the super efficient check-in to the friendly and chilled back owners/hosts, our stay felt like we were spending the weekend at our own farmhouse. Plenty of birds, rabbits, kangaroos and other wildlife to check out on the property, a great pool for the summer months, amazing sunsets across the dam and comfortable bed, clean rooms and a fresh simple breakfast- this place is the perfect Hunter B&B.

Thank you again Ian and Janelle (and our little friend Brian) for a pleasant stay - we will be recommending Tonic to all our friends and look forward to our return someday soon:)

Hi we spent a couple of night in tonic in August as part of our 10 days trip to Australia and this part was indisputably the best. Although the hotel is not in the more 'happening' part of hunter, which is Pokolbin where most of the restaurants and wineries are, the quite location has the benefit of kangaroos and wallabies jumping right in front of your balcony. And it's only 15 minutes drive to Pokolbin.
The property was so beautiful and unique. Rooms were massive with lovely decor and your personal sunset view from the balcony. I loved the do it yourself policy for breakfast and fridge was more than well stocked for that. The couple who own of the place were very friendly and gave us great some recommendations. All in all, a memorable stay!

The Tonic Hotel offered my family an exceptional experience this weekend. Each of the apartments were smartly dressed and equipped with quality fixtures. A favourite was the fireplace where some hours were spent sipping a few wines. The views from the balcony included an abundance of wildlife. Black swans landed on the dam very early in the morning. A number of kangaroos chose to make their way around the dam as we sat in the lounge. A small rabbit also nibbled on the grass below the balcony. Hot air balloons drifted across the valley with the mountain ranges beyond providing a great backdrop. The breakfast packs were sensational. Thank you to our hosts for making my husband's 60th birthday so memorable.

Room Tip: Every room has spectacular views across dams to mountain ranges. The setting is tranquil making it ideal for that quiet, rural get away.

We recently stayed at Tonic in the hunter valley for two nights and really loved it.

The breakfast provisions were enormous too much for two people.

The scenery from the room to the pond was absolutely stunning and the sunset to die for.

The bed was so comfortable and the room lovely and warm

Just a few points I would like to make.

1. Three cabins together for three couples could be potentially noisey but we were fortunate to have quiet neighbours.

2 sitting outdoors and having neighbours who smoke is a bummer. The horrible smell would not be nice for non smokers.

3 the website needs updating . No in room shopping which was not an issue for us but the website states underfloor heating in the bathroom which was not the case..This brings me to another point there is an open shower and the water was still on the floor when we left two days later. Could be a slip hazard.

Remember to bring slippers as there was none provided and thongs to walk in the wet bathroom.

As our towels were not changed a towel heater in the bathroom would be handy in the colder months.

The bathroom has no door to the bedroom so light shines in early morning which would not be so good in summer.

Apart from that it was a perfect stay.

There is a lovely Italian restaurant very close by and some good wineries.

We stayed at the Tonic for the weekend of the Roxette concert. We found the accommodation and facilities to be fantastic and more than suited our needs, for our quiet and tranquil stay in the Hunter. The surroundings are beautiful with the room facing the river and a wonderful countryside backdrop. Ian was very welcoming and more than accommodating with the lead up and during our stay. The room has both a fan and air con which were very useful. A lovely breakfast was provided. Kangaroos were out and about and only a short walk from where we were staying. We would certainly look at the Tonic for any future visits to the Hunter.

Room Tip: Give Ian a call.
