We visited Velana beach with a group of friends during New Year. It a nice beautifully done hotel. Staff is friendly and well behaved. They offer water sports at good price. However the food is just ok.

We checked in for 5 nights getting lured for half board package at a reasonable price . However the half board has a fixed menu from which you have to order your meal

The meal also cannot be swapped for lunch and has to be only dinner . The food quality is good but it gets monotonous after two days

9.30 pm being shut off time , it may be difficult for ppl who wants to eat late and relax. On maafushi island you cannot booze , however booze is available on a small 2 deck cruise for a price

If you go out for drinks on the cruise , you tend to get late for dinner as because it is not a la Carte , you may miss the dinner

Overall I would say the experience was strictly ok . Would suggest ppl to experience the hotel for not more than 2 nights and try other hotel .

Most important thing - ensure you have the card key and preserve it all the time as they would charge $30 for a new card key which I found it absurd . Another obnoxious thing is that whatever left over of dinner of half board , you cannot pack and have it on your room or can't pack at all . They prefer to waste but you won't get it

A perfect choice for travellers who are looking for a comfortable accomodation with an affordable price. The hotel offers plenty of recreational activities such as Sunset Fishing, site snorkelling, water sports, sandbank picnic, dolphine cruises etc... We were very happy and touched with your treatment and hospitality. The service was above par. Thank you for the extra mile and making our 13th wedding anniversary the most memorable so far. Wonderful suprise by the hotel . A romantic candle light dinner and lovely decorated room. The food at Kaalama Restaurant was fantastic. The staff spoiled us beyond our imagination.

Kudos to the staff especially Iyyaz (Sales & Marketing Manager) , Manager Rimzan and the team that made our stay a good time, comforting and secure. Awesome place with awesome staff. We will miss it dearly.

Just came back today from Velana Beach, Maafushi. Celebrated my honeymoon and birthday at the same time.

We arrived at the shores of Maafushi on an iCom boat from Male which cost USD 30 per pax (charged by the hotel) and was welcome by the Friendly Front desk agent Natasha and bags were carried by a friendly and nice staff who also did housekeeping for the rooms and did an exceptional job in decorating our honeymoon room personally. He is from bangladesh and I regretted not getting his name.

Rimzan, the hotel manager was exceptionally hospitable to us and ensure that our stay was memorable. We got a free upgrade to the best room in the hotel. That night itself, he got to our door with two of his staff and surprise me with a complimentary birthday cake. Rimzan made sure that our 6 days and 5 nights stay there was very very comfortable.

What made this hotel memorable are the friendship we made with all the staffs; Hotel manager: Rimzan, Front desk agent: Natasha and Shaza, Waiter: Ranak and of course Housekeeping and bell guy: (The bangladesh staff whose name i didnt get)

Although some may not be so comfortable with the construction going on next to the hotel, me and my wife had no issues with that.
And for muslims who are staying over, the Mosque is just a stone throw away from the hotel.

Maafushi is a very small island, its approx 1.4km in distance from one end to the other so dont be bothered if velana is not facing right smack at the well known bikini beach as it will just take 5 mins walk to the bikini beach. The beach infront of velana however is not that good for swimming as the seabed consist of grass and corals. BUT, you will get an exceptional sunrise view from it at about 4:30am in the morning. Anything you snap at that point will touch gold. And i think i may have seen the fins of a reef shark popping up somewhere in the waters. And if you are observant enough, you may find, octopus, ghost crabs, lots of cute hermit crabs at that side of the beach.

And for those who loves snorkelling, you can just borrow the equipments from the hotel at no charge. Just ask rimzan for assistance.

We were provided with breakfast. I may however would like to recommend that Velana might want to consider changing menus for the breakfast to have a stronger appeal. But no complains on that either.

Velana's lunch and dinner menu however, is based on an ala carte dining. As me and my wife were on a budget trip, we didnt explore dining their ala carte menu, instead, we went to the neighboring hotels for their all-you-can-eat dinner buffets instead which cost ard USD 10 - 15 per pax, such as Arena Beach and Kaani hotel. BUT, we did have a taste of Velana's cooking when we went for a night fishing trip for USD 20 per pax organized by the hotel and surely it is fine dining at its best. They made sure that our catch was cooked to perfection and it tasted sooo good! if only we had more money to spend, i would have dine at the hotel almost everyday.

What i love most was that Velana was still very much hospitable to us even tho we have checked out. Our flight was scheduled at 9pm and the last boat out from maafushi by icom boat was at 5pm. Due to overbooking of the hotel reservation, we were not able to have a late checkout. But Rimzan made sure that our belongings are taken care of. He even arrange our belongings to be placed in a room available just so we could shower while we kill time from our checkout at 12pm. We went snorkelling for a bit, came back to the spare room at 3pm, have a shower and manage to catch our boat just in time.

Exceptional bunch of staffs and i will not hesitate to come back again. and no, this is not a paid review. Just an honest, happy experience.

Located walking distance to the beach. Friendly and helpful staff. Perfect for young adult and family. The breakfast was ok but the restaurant have awesome selection if menu (a bit pricy). The room is convenient and clean. Wifi is great. Beautifully designed and so relaxing.

Dear Mirah,
Thank you for choosing Velana Beach for your stay in Maafushi.
It's a pleasure to hear such compliments about the room, our wifi (important!) and the staff. We will be sure to pass on your positive comments. We feel our staff are our biggest strength and it's great to hear they took care of you.
Thank you for the kind words about Kaalamaa Restaurant, especially the selection. We do try to keep the prices as reasonable as we can but do also like to use a good quality of ingredients and offer more of a fine dining experience which is perhaps a little more costly than some of the other offerings in the island. We will definitely take your feedback on board.
Once again, thank you for taking time to write us such a positive review and we hope to welcome you back to Velana Beach in the near future.
Kind Regards
